im confused...., by jonvespa on Apr 16, 2007 23:19:32 GMT 1, so, the LA morons was #'d to 500, but they only sold 250 prints. I bought one. My girlfriend bought the POW print and it arrived today. She called and said hers was #'d in the 200's. Did POW eliminate the other 250 LA prints? or just replace them with their version but started the numbering at #1 again? if not, did they sell 250 in LA and another 500 on the site?
Enlighten me. haha.

Just out of curiosity, how did you know that POW only sold 250 prints?
Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, the prints sold in LA and through POW were all part of the same edition run, so there's only 500 unsigned prints in total. About 100 sold in LA, and the rest sold through POW. People who bought theirs from the LA show received prints with numbers ranging from (approximately) 51 through 150, and the other numbers went to the POW release. The signed editions (the run of 150 'normal' ones and the 300 sepia ones) were released solely through POW
Hope that helps!

Because apparently, Banksy wasn't completely happy with the prints that were released in LA, and since they were to be done by a different printhouse in the UK (i.e., POW), there was the opportunity to tweak... which is probably what happened. Strictly speaking, all prints in any single edition run should be identical, but they broke the 'rule' here.

im confused...., by pastiepie on Apr 17, 2007 1:49:08 GMT 1, If the first 50 were reserved for friends / celebrities etc. does that mean that they would all be unsigned? I'd figure that if your going to give prints away you'd probably sign them but then why would you reserve the first 50 of the unsigned run shouldn't it be the signed run?

When I was chatting with the print-selling-lady, she said that the artist kept the first 50 prints... so that's all that's known so far. I also wonder where they eventually went to, and also about the signed/unsigned status. But I would guess they'd most likely be signed. Yeah, they weren't in the signed run where they should be, but the edition of 500 unsigned prints were supposed to be identical too. So I guess it's just all a mess!
Although, I think not all 50 were given away, 'cos some of the sub-50 Grannies were sold when POW released them. My guess is, they gave away to all the people they needed to give to, and then sold the remainder with the POW release.
Guess we'll never know exactly for sure
