Anyway it makes that print slighty more unique i suppose?

morons colours?, by dave313perry on Apr 27, 2007 9:22:02 GMT 1, i received my sepia earlier this week, must say the colour of mine looks to vary massivley from the ones on the bay. mine alot more beige rather than a sh**ty green!! or brown. il be interested to see if there is much difference throughout the batch. i work at a design and printers and thought that they would have mixed the colour in one batch, unless done purposely? my print is not with me at the minute but i will get a pic up as a comparison asap!

Could it be possible that the intended sepia paint was accidentally mixed in with the green used for the numbers, causing some kind of greenish baby poo colour?

morons colours?, by kayray100 on May 1, 2007 19:38:47 GMT 1, I finally got my Morons #197 today and it's more beige than sepia or green. I was also suprprised to find that it's a bit wider than I expected at 56 cm instead of 50cm - too wide for the mylar sleeves I like to store prints in until I can (afford to!) get them framed. Anyone else notice that?

morons colours?, by manchestermike on May 1, 2007 19:45:26 GMT 1, Unsigned are a very pale pink
My brother also had a reply on the greenish morons he sent back
"Hello ******,
I have received your Morons print back, thank you.
Within this run of 300 prints the first 100 were printed, agreed and signed by the artist. The remainder of the edition was re-printed with a colour that we were handed by the artist to replace the originally refused prints. Therefore, there may be a slight colour variation within this edition but each signed print has been agreed by the artist.
I have compared the print that you sent me with the ones that we have here and they are identical. Your friend must have received one of the earlier prints and so his is of the slightly different colourway. This will in no way affect your prints authenticity or value.
Please let me know if you would like me to send you the print back or if you are unhappy with the print and would like a refundโฆ
Kind regards Dora POW"
Needless to say he's having it back ;D

morons colours?, by stillborncrisps on May 1, 2007 23:03:59 GMT 1, If only the first 100 are true sepia and the rest are green, surely that makes the brown ones one of the most rare of the recent Banksy runs, given most people's reaction to the green so far has been ugh (ie less desirable).
What with the fcuk up in the numbering of the LA ones, and the LAs being different to the POW ones, and even the POW ones now having 2 variations, this has got to be one of the most confusing releases ever.

morons colours?, by nombei on May 2, 2007 7:11:58 GMT 1, MM --- thanks for sharing that info from POW !
reading that it sounds like Banksy provided the greenish sepia colour ink, so it's interesting that he would have approved the first 100 that definitely seem to be a brownish sepia. though since it also sounds like they had to toss the second 200 the first time around, maybe they were just happy to have 300 prints that he was willing to sign.
maybe the ink fumes are getting to everyone at the POW office...

morons colours?, by ABC on May 2, 2007 14:49:27 GMT 1, It seems that there are three colourways, Sepia (Brown) Khaki and a lighter brown, As Dora states the prints were printed at different times in the run. Shouldnt think they would be worth any more or less than the others becuase they are all titled "Sepia" it will just be like the older prints that have variations of red and pink on.

I have a feeling my replacement could be the 'greenish' one. I'll reserve my judgment of it until I see it. I am not cluded up on how the process works, but from the sounds of it Banksy himself is behind the change in colour.

I also agree that the particular hue of the sepia print could very well affect it's long term value. After all, beyond the fact that it's a signed Banksy, it is a piece of art and the colour of the image goes to the very heart of it's appeal. Some hues definitely work better with this image than others and I can see those hues becoming much more desirable in the long term.
In the short term demand for Banksy's is so large that I don't think it'll affect the value. Though generally speaking the more money people spend on a piece of art, the more particular they become (at least until you have so much money it doesn't matter).
Incidentally, I'd actually liken it to having different colourways of the same print. From the pictures I've seen so far - the variation is very noticeable. There are plenty of examples of differing colour ways of the same image fetching very different amounts of money. For example, look at the variations in the prices of the different Eelus Shat-ats or at the top end of the market check the Warhol Marilyn's.

morons colours?, by bobbymeachamjr on May 2, 2007 16:10:43 GMT 1, I love the one I received - its not green and its not the saturated brown we see on POW. Its a bit paler than the latter and that happens to be my preference so Im VERY happy. All in all though, whichever one I received I would have been ecstatic because it seemed like such an ordeal first ordering it > waiting for official confirm > when will they ship? > one of the last to receive > is it damaged? > home free

2 things: 1. What photos are you talking about? Because all I've seen up until this point is small photos on ebay and that could be a result of crappy cameras, flash vs. no flash, or lighting in the room. I'm still holding judgement until forum members post some hi-res photos here. 2. The difference between Eelus and Warhol's is that he printed editions in different colors - these are from the same edition. If there really are brown/beige/green I can see the brown/beige being slightly more desirable but part of the beauty of screenprinting is the variations.

morons colours?, by arcam on May 2, 2007 16:18:12 GMT 1, Really though an item should come as decribed...i.e Sepia (shade of brown). I am not pointing fingers as I don't know who is to blame. But some of the pictures I've seen are a completely different colour, nevermind a different shade.
I can't help but feel due to the huge demand, the goal posts have been changed and we're forced just to accept it.
