Banksy Laugh Now Print, by ninorc on Apr 4, 2016 14:41:14 GMT 1, If you want people to see if it's 'genuine', you'll need to take much better photos!
Hello playmates! I'm taking miBanksy to have its photograph(s) taken properly. Obviously, you want to see hi-res, well-lit images, but are there any specific details you would like to see in close-up? There is no stamp, number, or signature, but I guess I can ask him to focus on the lower right hand corner, where it says, 'BANKSY'?
BTW, as this thread is nominally about Artist's Prints of Laugh Now, are you aware that there is a fully accredited one on eBay at the mo. - 'BANKSY LAUGH NOW SIGNED AP,COA PEST CONTROL CERTIFICATE MINT ,Dismaland' - with a Buy It Now price of £25,000? That is, twenty five thousand of your English pounds. Or nearest offer!

Seriously, I don't think anyone's that bothered about the front - it's the drawing on the back that is of relevance/interest. Personally, I think it looks a though it could be genuine, but proving that is nigh on impossible. And even then it's not really worth that much as it's a scribble of something already in print, as opposed to a preliminary sketch of future work.

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by agu on Apr 10, 2016 11:48:01 GMT 1, I'm still interested in the the work of and legend that surrounds banksy rather than the money the nimorc is/is not going to make, so I'm going to stick my neck out again. Just in case anyone fancies a discussion.
2 questions:
Why is there zero interest in finding out if this is in any way draw by the man himself ?
Why is Pest control the ONLY way to authenticate a banksy? This is not true for other art so why does it hold true in this case? PC is certainly the easiest, most accurate route - But why is it excepted as the only one?

It is true for a large number of artists - Warhol, Picasso, Basquiat, Haring spring to mind - althugh I think the Haring foundation stopped authenticating things . I know authentication of past greats is largely controlled by individual institutes as well.
You can get opinions but a suprisingly large number of artists estates control the authentication process - Banksy is odd only in that he's not dead yet

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by agu on Apr 10, 2016 20:18:16 GMT 1, Thank You Chrisell66. Clearly I need to delve deeper. Any idea what happens once the foundation "pulled the plug"? I guess that has ramifications for pest control. What would happen to the ledger of registered COA's if they upped sticks?

Hello, aesthetes!
I now have a much better image of the mysterious sketch (and the actual print), which you can see on my blog, or I can send to anyone who messages me. Perhaps someone can paste them up for me, as before?
I've had no response from Laz or PC, so it doesn't look like I'm going to get any further with this investigation, but I'll give it until the end of the month before launching the eBay auction and will let you know when.
Despite the scepticism expressed here, I hope that most of you are convinced that this print is real and is possibly the only copy of Laugh Now NOT to have been numbered! As such, its auction will be an opportunity for those who appreciate the image as art, rather than an investment, to acquire a genuine Banksy print much more cheaply than it would otherwise be. Indeed, dealers won't be interested in it without a COA. Also, the buyer must collect in person from Central London, so those who can't make it across the pond needn't bother.

I'm selling Laugh Now and Bomb Middle England (both unsigned) on behalf of a friend. I have no idea of their market value so any help would be much appreciated. Collection from Bristol is preferred but shipping can be arranged.
Please get in touch with any interest or current market value. Thanks in advance!

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by Love Is In The Air on May 15, 2016 22:51:05 GMT 1, Hi Lee,
First thing, you need to say is whether the two prints have COA from Pest? If they don't your friend should obtain these before selling the prints as they are worth much less without. Then you should probably look on the 'Banksy Price Check' area of this website and also you could look at a few online galleries to get a feel for a reasonable price guide. I would then re-submit the prints for sale here, with extra pics if possible so people can see the condition....if you do this I'm sure you will sell them.
I would be interested myself but would need more info and ideally an "offers over £x" so I know if I can even afford to put in an offer. GLWTS

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by leecd on May 16, 2016 10:27:18 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice. My friend is currently waiting for PC verdicts of authentication for the Laugh Now. After research it seems one sold to a forum member for £8000 so this will be the figure I would suggest to sell for currently. Friend will I frame them once certificate received. I will update thread when this is received. Please stop messaging for a bit until I find out more.

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by Viking Surfer on May 16, 2016 11:10:12 GMT 1, Hi Lee,
Would also need to see pictures of the artwork out of the frame. If your friend has little idea on price, I bet he has little idea on conservation framing too.
Would need to see how the art was mounted and if there is tape reside, matt burn etc.

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by stillborncrisps on May 21, 2016 21:09:43 GMT 1, Thanks for the info. What's SOL? And how do I 'throw a picture up'? Do I have to start a new thread to add images? I have been sending pics to those who message me.
Been thinking about that sketched Pulp Fiction on the back of an unsigned/unnumbered Laugh now in light of mlocks' post of that Sale Ends print taped to the top of a box of LA Sale Ends prints (to show the contents of the box whilst the show was being organised).
(See post here: urbanartassociation.com/post/1491499/ )
Could another explaination for the Pulp Fiction sketch be similar? Ie that it wasn't a preliminary drawing, but a marker of the contents of a box/shelf - drawn on a 'scrap' unwanted/unneeded print?

Someone posted a video somewhere recently of a printer filming himself cutting up screens and sketches for a few runs of Banksy prints. There was a sketch that made me think this was real. Similar style.

Standard things like the basic shape of a head...
