What is an acceptable amount to spend on a Christmas tree?, by Sliding on the Walls on Nov 26, 2017 22:48:53 GMT 1, OK so Iโve just been told Iโm being a Grinch because I moaned at the price of the Christmas Tree weโre getting this year.
Just For research purposes, tell me how much youโve spent / will spend on your Christmas tree ๐
Iโm talking just the tree, whether itโs real or fake and not the decorations just purely the tree!

The day after Thanksgiving = the traditional Christmas decorating day around me.
I use an old aluminum tree that's been in my family for 50+ years. Have never bothered with a real tree. Always seemed like too much of a mess for me.
On the topic, I'm still annoyed at myself that I missed Klara Liden's 2012 exhibition 'Pretty Vacant'. As part of it, she collected thrown-out Christmas trees from all around NYC and filled the gallery with them:

Yours is clearly isnโt having fun.

What is an acceptable amount to spend on a Christmas tree?, by hui on Nov 27, 2017 0:55:42 GMT 1, Ya I'm sure Americans only ones who put up early - All Americans -no exceptions -need a place to put our wrapped up guns we giving as gifts Well, we have Thanksgiving - like another member mentioned, a lot of folks do it the Friday after. I feel like the rest of the world waits a week or two and then puts the trees up. We kind of mesh those two holidays together.
And I don't know about the guns here in the midwest, but we're too lazy - if we're going to do all that work, we need a min. of 4 weeks to admire our piece of art.
I'm more curious when folks take them down. I know a number of Latin American countries wait until January 7 for Three King's Days.

What is an acceptable amount to spend on a Christmas tree?, by treweman on Nov 27, 2017 2:15:28 GMT 1, Over the last few years, with the children grown and gone, we would wait until the last minute to get the tree and decorate it. If Iโm being honest, we procrastinate because of me. I am not a fan of Christmas - at least the way those around me celebrate the holiday. This year, for some reason, I decided to swallow my disgust and become a cheerful participant (all an act, I can assure you). Got the tree on Friday after Thanksgiving. Pick of the litter and paid exactly $44 for it. Also got a new tree holder. A new fangled affair with nothing but a plastic rod in the center shaped like a broom handle. When we bought the tree, the nursery drilled a hole in the bottom of the trunk to match the rod. Crazy simple and wonderfully easy and effective. It also guarantees that we will buy our tree from the same nursery every year as they have the equipment to drill the hole. Also got a wreath for the front door, two poinsettia plants, a very large Christmas tree made out of grape vines for the front porch and multiple sets of C7 outer lights to decorate it, and a Christmas cactus for the counter over the kitchen sink.
Yes, way too early. Yes, it is more fun and meaningful to cut your own tree. And yes, my wife is as happy as a pig in shit, and that is really all that matters.

What is an acceptable amount to spend on a Christmas tree?, by Lroy on Nov 27, 2017 3:52:51 GMT 1, The first Christmas tree ๐ have been โ born or created โ in Alsace, the countryside where I live, near Strasbourg, in the East of France ( a bit of history ,, sorry for the translation ..
ยซย This tradition finds its origin with the Middle Ages. It is fusion during centuries of at the same time pagan rites initially then Christian. Pagan side they are the Celts who gave in first to the fir tree the significance of the new life and the rebirth. Then the religion seized some. It is the Irish missionary holy Colomban who being in France at the 6th century would have brought together inhabitants of Austrasie, is France, around a crowned fir tree. To this occasion it would have carried the word of Christ by telling the account of its birth and one would have benefitted from it to decorate the tree. What is certain it is that mile year later, in 1521 the Christmas tree makes his appearance in Alsace. The inhabitants are authorized there to cut the trees in the forests to the Saint Thomas (on December 21st). One then decorates them with pinks, apples (in reference to Adam and Eve), and with sugar refineries. At the 18th century, this habit is well established in particular in Alsace. In the courses royal it is quickly adopted. The princess Henriette de Nassau-Weilburg thus introduces the Christmas tree at the Court of Vienna in 1816, and the duchess of Orleans, of German origin, at the Court of France in 1837. But one even says that they would be quite front it, Marie Leszczynska, the woman of Louis XV, who was the first to install a fir tree in Versailles. It is necessary to wait the 19th century to see the people seizing this practice.ยซย
Here, they say that is Luther ( Alsace was German then - before all the wars ) , and was born in Strasboug ..

I went artificial a few years back. This year the wife wants 2 trees so I'm back in the market. The artificial is fantastic though. Looks realer than real.
Next weekend will be decorative day

What is an acceptable amount to spend on a Christmas tree?, by gmidd on Dec 3, 2017 20:19:51 GMT 1, Just had to buy a new fake tree a couple weeks ago and got it for $170 on sale from about $325. It's a prelit 7' tree with LED lights.
There's a place near me that we went to last week and their fake trees ranged from about $300-4,000! No idea who spends $4k on a Christmas tree through.
