As for the hanging that image, I find this really unethical. Taking a commercial pin-up Alfred Mucha-like lady, and turning it into a fake Marianne. We all know that before the Paris attack, this commercial girl was an art/anti-war activist; today she is Marianne... I wonder for what cause she will be used tomorrow? Unless people behind this image decide to stick to this and cash in by selling mugs, tees, etc. But for sure, she will used again and again. Since when France has a Starbuck-Mucha ads lady as national symbol, I wonder?

I think any French person with fine eyes can attest that the girl shown there is not Marianne, it is a ripoff of Mucha girls, an elegant Starbucks-like corporate logo. But people and journalists keep mentioning it is Marianne Please, let's use the correct terms, it is an allegorical representation of Marianne. Just like the one of Delacroix showing her breasts (that story made the buzz in France after politician said that "Marianne is topless because she is feeding the People and she is not veiled"; historians had to step in to say it is totally wrong and that the topless Marianne is an allegorical representation of Marianne, a sexist one actually, made by men to tell women to stay home to feed their revolutionary kids). Note that French Government came up with an official logo of Marianne in 1999, after 5 years of debates and "hard" work.
