What's causing this warping? , by Lord Lucas Roham on Dec 21, 2017 20:53:28 GMT 1, And can it be flattened out?
Print is ten years old and never left the frame or been hung over a radiator. Been like this for a while.

What's causing this warping? , by Express Post on Dec 21, 2017 21:02:21 GMT 1, I had something similar happen to me. Mine was a combo of really thin paper and moisture in the environment. Unless it is a high GSM paper, chances of rescue are slim.

What's causing this warping? , by amsterdam9697 on Dec 21, 2017 21:10:44 GMT 1, Humidity. I had the same issue when I lived next to the Pacific. Moved to the desert and everything flattened out after a few days.

What's causing this warping? , by Lord Lucas Roham on Dec 21, 2017 21:13:20 GMT 1, Damn, I live in Scotland so something is up.
Considering taking it out of the frame and flattening for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, there is a backboard and dust cover, no spacers though. I will add tonight, although it's probably ten years too late.

What's causing this warping? , by iamzero on Dec 21, 2017 21:33:09 GMT 1, If that’s a window mount and it’s done that I’d be slightly worried. Looks like the paper hasn’t been allowed to move enough because of the fixings or there’s too much pressure from the window mount. Either way I’d be getting back off that Mickey to have a look.

What's causing this warping? , by Guy Denning on Dec 21, 2017 22:23:41 GMT 1, Yup - it's atmospheric humidity (I was informed by a pro art restorer). I've got a professionally framed Donwood print on heavy paper that has suffered the same. I live in Brittany - I think it's the French capital of humid... I suspect Scotland's pretty similar! I've not had any luck getting rid of it and jusy accept it as it is now. If you find a fix let us know!

I suspect if it was float mounted it wouldn't look as bad. The mount really emphasises it due to the gaps.

What's causing this warping? , by chr1s on Dec 22, 2017 21:17:54 GMT 1, Actually the over mat usually keeps the print from rippling better than a float. Paper changes sizes when the humidity or weather changes. Could be the season now where you live the humidity is a bit higher and unless the print is in a well sealed frame that is what causes the shape to change. It will return to it's original shape once the humidity changes. That looks like a BAST Mickey...I'm not sure what sort of paper those were printed on, but BAST's prints in particular are not really affected in value by their condition. He's pretty rough on his works on paper. I had the privilege of visiting his studio on a few occasions and when he brought out works on paper for viewing he would scatter them all over the floor and walk over them.
When a print is hinged for an over mat ideally they use two "tape" hinges so the paper can move as it changes shape. If they "taped" the print improperly so it can shift and move that might cause rippling. You might check to see that it was hinged properly.

What's causing this warping? , by moron on Dec 22, 2017 21:37:55 GMT 1, It could be that the back board is getting humid, absorbing moisture from the wall and it's creating the patches of moisture which affect the paper in front of the board and make it expand unevenly. I'd have a good look at the back board and then maybe see about replacing it and letting the paper dry out evenly, then re framing.
