Just out of interest, a co-op in England is a supermarket (funeral parlours and bank), I assume it’s something different in the US?

It's like a condo but the building is owned by all of the residents. A cooperative as it were. :-)

So prefer his early work to the lichtenstein-esqe pieces!!

Unlike a condo, co-ops are are owned by a corporation. This means, when you buy an apartment that is in a co-op building, you are not actually buying real property (like you would in a condo). You are in fact, buying shares of the corporation.

basically, you physically dont own the apartment. You need to have permission to do alterations and you have to get approved by a board to purchase. It used to(still is a bit) be for keep certain 'undesirables' from purchasing. The board doesnt have to give any reason for turning you down(even if qualified)
Still some left in NYC(not sure if they are in other places).

I'm drooling over here. Quite a few that I'd love to add to my collection, but methinks the prices would be out of my budget. GLWS!
