Places to stay in New York, by J0NNY on Jan 4, 2018 10:03:52 GMT 1, Stayed at the Wellington and the Time hotel my first couple times, decent location for the touristy things & mid range hotels ( I would not bother going for anything too pricey as we never spend too much time in the room when in NY). The mrs and I said we would stay in Brooklyn when we decide to go again though.

Places to stay in New York, by tran16 on Jan 4, 2018 10:29:35 GMT 1, Stay at the Ludlow. Right in the heart of the Lower East Side. Great hotel, โDirty Frenchโ restaurant is part of the hotel, also across the road from Katz Deli. Easy subway access to uptown and Brooklyn. Close to all the LES galleries (visit wearology at Fat Free!) and on your doorstep is a street tour of Invaders, Bowery, G Village and Soho easily walkable. My kids spent hours at โRound Twoโ clothes shop round the corner from the hotel if high end labels float your boat. While they were rinsing my money I would chat to the barman at the โNo Funโ bar across the road.

Beside that, it all depend on your budget tbh - but Iโd recommend around the village or Soho, or NoMad or the Gramercy (some great art at the latter) if you prefer midtown for the accessibility advantages.

It's a great location ... walking distance to Brooklyn Heights. You can catch almost any subway train in Brooklyn Heights. And prices are reasonable.

Brooklyn is super cool, but unless you want to spend a lot of time on trains getting to Manhattan to see sights, staying on Manhattan is the way to go.

My recommendation is to spend a bit more money and stay in the heart of Chelsea, SoHo or Lower East Side. Cheers everyone for the help so far. Yer weve looked at the ludlow and also standard.. as u mentioned we dont really wamna spend to much time on trains so will look into the areas suggested โ

Last time I traveled through Iceland Sweden and Denmark I did Airbnb with my son it was great. No reason to stay in a hotel. Just had musicians Honey Harper stay at my place.

Its just a long way to go to have to mess about waiting for access etc... our last airbnb was a nightmare and we'd only gone to norfolk. |

Definitely stay in the Lower East Side!! It's got the best "vibe" IMO, has great street art all around, and awesome little restaurants and cafes. It will give you the residential NYC "feels"!
Soho is nice, but rammed with tourists shopping. And it's more expensive.
Everything up higher (midtown) is "ok" but you'll probably find yourself travelling down (if you stay higher), more than up.
Also depends on when you're going? If it's warmer (anything but winter), just pay for the Citi bikes (like $25/week) and ride everywhere! So easy, and a great way to see the city!
