Doubt they’d have brains to orchestrate such a stunt when from the sounds of things they can’t even get a book printed.

So if you’re a museum and ‘own’ a piece you can’t sell copies of it.
But if you’re a ‘bloke/blokette’ who doesn’t ‘own’ an image you can run a commercial enterprise pumping out copies of it for years ...
Come on ....

If that was the case then anyone who owns a unique Banksy original could make a “Banksy” poster of their piece and sell it. How nice would that be!

Why would a museum buy works they can't promote? that is the whole business they are in right?

Nice one Steve you twonk. Next time keep away from the keyboard mate. Likely a member here, so turn off the lights on your way out.

He probably bought a bunch started a rumour and has them listed on eBay at $799 As far as the WCP never have never would or suggest to anyone to buy that trash. It’s like buying a Rolex or a LV from canal street or anything counterfeit or fake.
I want to ask any and everyone who owns or condones the WCP prints: How are you buying fake art with real money and thinking it’s ok? How does that help the artist? How does that make you feel when someone is like; “ Wow what an amazing Banksy you have “ are you like “ Oh that old thing....it’s not real it’s a fake” smh.....

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Chris JL on Jan 17, 2018 15:31:34 GMT 1, Mr X discovers that some posters that he has printed and sold are infringing copyright. Nevertheless, the copyright owner (the artist) does not undertake legal actions against anybody infringing his/her copyright.
Then two cases arise: 1) Mr X makes of infringing copyrights his line of business and decides to keep on selling the print (reminds you of somebody?); 2) Mr X cares about his reputation (say because he is a Museum), hence he decides to stop selling the posters.
In the above scenario nobody screwed anybody (hence terrible title for this post), but one Mr X made the right call.

Honest question. So you are ‘helping’ banksy when you buy a ‘authorized’ work?
Honestly if true that’s one of the most ridiculous sentiments I’ve seen on this forum.
I have a Monet poster on my wall too. Should I shake my head and say I’m a loser cause I can’t afford a million dollar piece of art?

I’m sorry ( actually sorry not sorry ) if my post has offended so many. Do you all buy your children fake toys too and tell them there real to deal with it? How can anyone justify buying fake art? Let alone displaying it. And when I said how does jr benefit the artist I meant how does counterfeit art benefit an artist? All the oh I dont have millions or thousands to spend on real art. Come on cry me a river buy some real art from another artist or go take a picture of some real art and print it out that would be an amazing idea no? Lol . Or better yet let’s let our children make something original that we all feel so proud of and then let someone come and copy it and sell it consequentially destroying that kids dreams and hopes of doing something again. Then let’s see how that makes you feel. REAL ART OVER FAKE ART EVERY DAY. are you still bootlegging music and downloading software? Lol do what you want buy what you like enjoy the fake WCP Banksy works. Just tell me this. Imagine you met banksy and he comes to your home and sees a bunch of WCP prints hanging. How do you justify that?

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Guy Denning on Jan 17, 2018 16:49:20 GMT 1, The poster is not a reproduction of the original art. It's a reproduction of a photograph of the original art, likely taken by a photographer commissioned (or even employed) by the museum. The musuem, in selling posters, is not selling an editioned print. It's selling a mass produced image that they likely hold the copyright in (in the same way as they own the copyright of photographs of other museum held objects). The price and the declaration that it is a poster makes no claim to it being in anyway "authorised Banksy" any more than their postcard of Karl Weshke's painting "Leda and the swan" (check out the original at the museum - it's great) is "authorised Weshke". It's a bloody poster ffs...

Easy answer. I’d say Banksy instead of selling art for millions to VIPs why don’t you release an affordable print to the public.
And sorry to ruin your argument but WCP, gallery posters, etc. are not ‘fake art’. They are not forgeries. They are marketed as reproductions.
Lastly it’s funny you mention taking a picture and printing it out. Now you have no issue with skirting copyright laws to get an image on your wall.

The person buying the fake buys it because they like the artwork where for some buying the print on the secondary it's a status symbol. So people who own authentic banksy prints are not true fans? Why do these comments come up when it comes to the WCP? How can people forum members belong to THE BANKSY FORUM “ and argue that buying reproduced prints by someone not affiliated with the artist is ok? Oh wait you are right. How dare someone take someone else’s image and use it for their own. Oh wait speaking of banksy.... and so many other artists.

One could argue that some people who own fakes may be bigger fans of the artwork than someone who owns the acctual print. Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Guy Denning on Jan 17, 2018 17:00:55 GMT 1, The artwork produced and pictured was gifted to the museum by the artist ,odd that they are not allowed to publish pictures of the statue ? It's very odd. It's like policing publishers that sell books of photographs of street art. The poster is not pretending to be the original artwork. Admittedly much of BANKSY's production in the market place are prints but I can't see how a mass produced photographic poster in any way appears to threaten that. Particularly now that the market for BANKSY is so firmly established to make any future editions (should it happen again) unaffected by a five quid museum poster. Personally I think the museum got the willys and are just playing it very safe because someone in a suit upstairs was worried of potential financial repercussions should anything legal happen (which would seem extremely unlikely i.m.o.)
