Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Lunch Special on Jan 17, 2018 17:01:20 GMT 1, . I’m sorry ( actually sorry not sorry ) if my post has offended so many. Do you all buy your children fake toys too and tell them there real to deal with it? How can anyone justify buying fake art? Let alone displaying it. And when I said how does jr benefit the artist I meant how does counterfeit art benefit an artist? All the oh I dont have millions or thousands to spend on real art. Come on cry me a river buy some real art from another artist or go take a picture of some real art and print it out that would be an amazing idea no? Lol . Or better yet let’s let our children make something original that we all feel so proud of and then let someone come and copy it and sell it consequentially destroying that kids dreams and hopes of doing something again. Then let’s see how that makes you feel. REAL ART OVER FAKE ART EVERY DAY. are you still bootlegging music and downloading software? Lol do what you want buy what you like enjoy the fake WCP Banksy works. Just tell me this. Imagine you met banksy and he comes to your home and sees a bunch of WCP prints hanging. How do you justify that? Easy answer. I’d say Banksy instead of selling art for millions to VIPs why don’t you release an affordable print to the public. And sorry to ruin your argument but WCP, gallery posters, etc. are not ‘fake art’. They are not forgeries. They are marketed as reproductions. Lastly it’s funny you mention taking a picture and printing it out. Now you have no issue with skirting copyright laws to get an image on your wall.
Only said the WCP are fakes. And an unauthorized reproduction in the form of a print using reproduced stencils or silkscreens not produced by the actual artist is a blatant theft of intellectual property Opposed to taking a picture of let’s say an art installation or a street piece like no ball games bc you visited the place is different than printing and pumping them out for profit. Can you please tell me what the argument is here? Mine is the production and reproduction of unauthorized artwork being sold as art. I remember the WCP listings said “ REPRODUCED USING THE SAME METHODS USED BUY THE ORIGINAL PRINTERS” so what’s the argument here again? You Can surely you start the www.notreallybybanksyforum.proboards.joke.com before someone else does.

Why do these comments come up when it comes to the WCP? How can people forum members belong to THE BANKSY FORUM “ and argue that buying reproduced prints by someone not affiliated with the artist is ok? I thought it was the Urban art association

Honestly if true that’s one of the most ridiculous sentiments I’ve seen on this forum. I have a Monet poster on my wall too. Should I shake my head and say I’m a loser cause I can’t afford a million dollar piece of art? . I’m sorry ( actually sorry not sorry ) if my post has offended so many. How do you justify that? Oh Right, because when you pay a $15-20k markup to a flipper they turn around and give that back to the artist right? Obviously not everyone who owns an actual print buys it just to show off, allot are true fans.
Also, honestly if you let people in your house who will judge you because you have a fake print on your wall you probably might want to reevaluate who you let in your house.

You Can surely you start the www.notreallybybanksyforum.proboards.joke.com before someone else does. It's an interesting area of discussion because WCP never claimed to be selling BANKSY prints. They were clearly offered as copies or fakes... And the art world, which is a strange beast, has an increasing history (particularly recently) of artists 'appropriating' other artists' work, repeating it (sometimes to the same standard as a forgery) and passing it off as another artist's work. Richard Prince is a prime example... I can point to another 'artist'... who takes established famous photographs by some of the twentieth century's greatest photographers, has them mechanically printed to a large scale, adds diamond dust etc and punts them on for (what I consider) nutty money. Back to the subject under discussion, Bristol museum never sold these as an editioned print. And if anybody bought them thinking that they were (for a fiver) then they are either extremely optimistic or a moron. If it looks to good to be true etc etc...

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by NYart on Jan 17, 2018 17:21:22 GMT 1, I’d say the big difference is the museum being a reputable organization, did the right thing when they realized they weren’t authorized to produce the prints. On the other hand WCP or whoever else is selling knock off banksy merch doesn’t care. Doubt Banksy sent them a cease and desist order over it.

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Lunch Special on Jan 17, 2018 17:24:02 GMT 1, Exactly my sentiments. The Bristol museum took a photograph of a work of art donated and now part of the museums permanent collection. Whether they over stepped there boundaries ir not, is a whole other topic for discussion. How would you feel if forum members here started reproducing your works Guy denning onto those digital canvases and were like hey if you can’t afford a Denning then maybe this will suffice? Or Fake I’m sure he’s had his fare share of bootlegging. Does anyone remember that song by ONYX Bootleg get your leg broke?
WAIT WAIT WAIT. here we go let’s see how this is received.
Did you buy your wife a real diamond or a fake one? Is it safe to say she would of received the fake one just the same because you stated that your love for her will always out shine the dull piece of glass on her finger?

We own the art work in question and had been granted permission to produce the image in our Guide to the Art gallery published last Autumn. It was assumed that this would allow us to produce prints however, having contacted Banksy's management we were told that this was not the case. We have apologised to Banksy and would like to offer our apologies to any customers who felt misled by this sale. Your sentiments are all over the place with multiple contradictions and comparisons that in reality don’t compare.
In a vacuum you may have a fair arguement. Sadly urban art is not that vacuum. You might want to find a different art period.

This is as far as I know anyway. It’s not good for anyone if people in therory give away work for free. When I was doing cycling photos, you would not believe how many people wanted photos for free, thinking by giving you a credit is ok

A museum that ‘owns’ an image can’t (it seems) produce a picture of it for sale at low cost.
A man or woman that doe NOT ‘own’ anything can make a living over several years out of creating replica Images down to ( they claim) original inks and paper and get away with it ......
So either the museum panicked or something else Is going on here .

Is it safe to say she would of received the fake one just the same because you stated that your love for her will always out shine the dull piece of glass on her finger? Didn’t realise there was an amount you had to spend to make your partner happy. Anyway bored now as im sure others are.

If questions of copyright and an artist morality concern you then urban art probably isn’t for you.

Because I asked if it would have been received the same had someone bought there wife a fake diamond for a wedding ring. So you then turned and said that I was all about the money? It’s hard to believe you do not have a vested interest when it comes to WCP art. But to answer your question. Your love for the art doesn’t matter if it’s realnor not. But your love for your wife doesn’t out value her love or Need for a real diamond? Hey let’s see how you’d feel if WCP started reproducing the works of Lee Ellis,Dan kitchner, Gonefellow etc. then what?

You’re right. I joined in 2009 you joined 5 years later and have three times as many posts then I do. Right I’m all about the money. Ok your royal magestry 🙃 we are not arguing morals or appropriation of images by artists used as inspiration, concepts, and or reworked imagery. We are talking about the blatant theft and reproduction for profits by your WCP opposed to that of a museum attempting to raise funds to promote further art shows. Ha ha maybe donate one of your WCP prints to the museum and see how that goes for ya.... ;-)

We are talking about the blatant theft and reproduction for profits by your WCP opposed to that of a museum attempting to raise funds to promote further art shows. Ha ha maybe donate one of your WCP prints to the museum and see how that goes for ya.... ;-)

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by Guy Denning on Jan 17, 2018 18:20:30 GMT 1, How would you feel if forum members here started reproducing your works Guy denning onto those digital canvases and were like hey if you can’t afford a Denning then maybe this will suffice? My work has been reproduced, with and without permission, in books and I don't mind. I look at it as being advertising I haven't paid for. My work has been copied and signed by another name and is currently available for sale in a hotel somewhere (someone sent me images and a link). It was an attempt at an exact copy of my work and was available for sale under the name of another artist. There's little I can do about it so I don't get my head up my arse.
here's the fake by 'Jordan'
paste image host
and my original:
It's the wooly world of visual art. If they were claiming to be selling an original then that would be a different issue, and I have stopped people in the past from doing that. Not because it damages my income but because it's taking the piss out of people that think they're buying something done by me or with my declared authority. If someone can't afford my work and they print a copy from an image I put on the internet, for their own walls I don't mind. We've all done that.

Was only a matter of time before the ‘in the old days’ themed post.
It’s fine if you don’t like what WCP does. I don’t really care. But to then make excuses about ‘appropriation’ or ‘inspiration’ for others is a little lazy.
In five years it will come out that WCP is actually Banksy and everyone on this forum will bow down and call it a great work of art. LOL!

Yes ... the difference between the genius of say Jamie Reid or Banksy , who wholesale ‘found’ images and WCP who wholesale ‘rips off’ images is clear .
One created something amazing and new and the other is simply ripping something off for profit .

I would be pissed. I understand copies being in a book or someone printing an image off the internet to hang on their own wall but someone plagiarizing your work to profit from, that's really low. I would at least let the hotel know that they are being played by a wannabe artist or more of a scam artist and demand that they remove the piece from their walls and take it off the wall and burn it. If they did not comply I would take action, legal or otherwise.
