Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by Spider Joe on Jan 18, 2018 15:42:42 GMT 1, Hi,
Can anyone give me advice on the following please: I am looking at purchasing a print that is in very good condition to the front but to the rear there are areas of green ink, likely to be from the printers. Does this affect the overall value of the print?
Many thanks

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by absyrd on Jan 18, 2018 16:14:35 GMT 1, In any printmaking process, there is always the chance of ink getting on the back of the print. I wouldn't think it devalues anything.

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by sufsean on Jan 18, 2018 16:19:27 GMT 1, Depends on the print.
Easy to get--someone would (at least) try to get price down. If it's super hard to get--people wouldn't care.

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by jusdeep on Jan 18, 2018 16:48:59 GMT 1, It makes it much more sought after and much more valuable. Unless it's by Mr Brainwash and has thumb prints on the back

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by moron on Jan 18, 2018 17:08:43 GMT 1, If it's signed and numbered on the front, it's part of the edition and paint on the back has no effect on the value. It's all part of the process.

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by Rolex on Jan 18, 2018 19:43:28 GMT 1, I recently sold a grin reaper which had black ink all over the back of it, didn’t effect price though as apparently this was common on that print

Does this affect the overall value of the print? Many thanks As long as it does not affect the image on the front I think it's fine. I actually have a few Hayden Kays prints with finger prints on the front, since they were hand pulled. So I like to think they are HK's , although it's more likely from a Thai printer.
It adds character.

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by Vanessa Villegas Art Advisory on Jan 29, 2018 19:18:11 GMT 1, It should not affect the value at all. As others have noted some collectors like having something a little unique. It proves that it was hand printed on a press and not printed out on a computer printer.

Printers ink on rear of print - does this affect the value, by Pattycakes on Jan 30, 2018 19:36:56 GMT 1, Makes no difference what so ever. If the artist signed it and released it from the studio then it met with their approval and thus is not a condition issue. End of story.
