Invader prices dropping, by brycepen on Feb 7, 2018 0:44:44 GMT 1, Jesus, it’s simple economics people. Interest rates are expected to rise so investors will respond by divesting from assets that aren’t tied to interest rates. The red hot art market is going to start cooling the same way the stock market will. Invader is still invader I disagree and agree at the same time. "Invader prices are dropping" Whats doess this mean? Flippers are making 500£ less per print! How sad... The art market is not cooling down because of simple economics. Look at artist like Harland Miller. He is not cooling down because its not his turn to cool down. (just wait for him) Invader is still invader, and id rather have an invader.
Anecdotal examples aren’t really the best way to assess a market. Some individuals will always manage to perform well despite overall trends. I was just defending invader, as I don’t see a temporary dip in average prices as a sign that he is on the decline and that the “bubble has burst”

I have a degree in economics too, this is a niche market, small scale manipulation- yes the broader market always has a part to play, but in this instance it’s a very distant second.

I’m sorry, is there something wrong with noting your earned credentials as the basis for your opinion? I’m just trying to provide a frame of reference for my difference of opinion. I welcome all other opinions.

Invader prices dropping, by brycepen on Feb 7, 2018 9:55:35 GMT 1, Well clearly I’m so advanced that it seems like simple economics to me
That was a joke by the way. And yeah i can see how expectations about future interests rates and their effect on the art market probably isn’t something most people think about in their daily life. I’m just a nerd.

Invader prices dropping, by NYart on Feb 7, 2018 11:42:23 GMT 1, The way I see it is just a little market correction. I figure once they find their true value they’ll hold for quite some time aside from realistic appreciation of value. His prices were due for a big jump and they just over shot a bit. He’s one of the 3? Prominent artists and most recognizable artists in the streets. Figure if Faireys output was on par with invader and banksy his prints would be bringing in those prices too.

Invader prices dropping, by tab1 on Feb 7, 2018 12:22:06 GMT 1, Burst is slightly exreme... but nothing rises forever. You need a slight correction before the next level, plus if galleries stop bidding on auctions the manipulation slows down. A pyramid scheme (which is pretty much what a lot of prices are) has to stop at some point.. especially if the better quality work has already changed hands.
As long as galleries don’t stop bidding up banksy all is ok Has a knock on effect with other artists in this scene.
Literally over a month invader prices just shot up, Can not justify the prices No major gallerie presence , no technical skill , no imagination
All those artists that study fine art , are masters and struggling to make ends meet , seeing this ?

Sorry don't buy that at all. Art is an investment asset in some parts of the market, but definitely not in invader prints!
Art prices tank when people need to sell. Because they lose jobs. Or, as in the last art crash, have pledged it as collateral.
Either way this isn't invader! Prices have softened because money has been made and profits can be taken. It's not a crash.
However... From an art perspective, while I would love one of his pieces on the wall I also think they are quite easy to part with if you want to turn a quick buck. They don't reveal much more on repeated viewing.

Invader prices dropping, by Jaylove on Feb 7, 2018 13:00:06 GMT 1, someone did claim economics and I somewhat agree. Anytime you see a sharp rise the way Invader did, you get a drop. Did people think values would rise exponentially forever? Also would pay attention to the stock market in general too. A lot of people have made money over the years, which means $ to spend on things like art. The art world has benefited from historically low interest rates as well. They're going up. I don't think it's just Invader that will feel the affects of that.
After all is said and done Invader is a premiere artist and should be just fine in the long run. Can't say the same about some of the other popular artists out there.
