There's some fairly questionable lots up for sale, saying that they are no worse than most other lower tier auction houses. Tread carefully and do your due dliigence I guess.

While some fault definitely lays with buyer, considering they arenโt intentionally misleading anyone. An argument could definitely be made that reproductions have no place in a legitimate auction, and buyers shouldnโt have to read the details to make sure a piece is original/authentic.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Graham H on Jun 2, 2020 10:06:52 GMT 1, Its an auction house.. it can sell whatever it wants.. all its doing is cheapening its own name.. why should it be withdrawn and why is it disgusting..
Stuff like this filters through lots of lower tier auction houses month after month.. and thats what it shows.. the level of auction house and how low on that ladder they are willing to go..
I just dont get the outrage.. if you dont want it.. dont buy it or buy from the auction house.. its your decision to make
Id much say the big issue is with WCP copying the artwork.. but thats already been debated to death on here
It is disgusting that an auction house sells cheap tat like this. They know what this is, it is a copy of an original print. If they are mixing crap like this with proper prints and knowing about it, it's unethical in my opinion. Shame on them, this should be withdrawn. They should have some kind of loyalty also to the people who sign up and bid and buy in good faith. They know, we know, the buyer doesn't really know it - this is worthless (or only worth what it was sold at source for) and is just a pretty copy of an original print. SHAME ON THEM.

I just don't like the idea of people buying thinking its something that it's not
No one likes to get scammed. is this a scam? maybe not, but whoever wins it will feel like shit, maybe it's a lesson learnt?
I know it's down to the buyer to check what WCP means, but most people do trust businesses to be honest (for some reason)
Shame these things happen
Anyone want to buy my Rolax watch?

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by vickyv on Jun 2, 2020 11:19:16 GMT 1, If anyone's interested in the Grannies at the auction, it's got a burn mark on the head of one of the grannies (assume it's the one that didn't sell at Tate Ward). Thought I'd highlight that it isn't 'mint' as it has previously been described - and no, I'm not looking to buy it.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Graham H on Jun 2, 2020 11:38:45 GMT 1, Two sayings have popped into my head when considering and reading your post...
' A fool and his money are soon parted ' and if ' something looks to good to be true...'
It shows its the responsibility of the seller to describe correctly, and the buyer to know what he / she is buying..
It does also highlight that on this forum we all mostly understand that all the stuff peddled on ebay like Banksy Canvases and prints, mugs, scarves, calendars et all are nothing to do with Banksy.. and goes back to his original thought that his images were there for people to copy and use as they wish, but now, with his notoriety and values of works being as they are its a whole different ball game.. and no doubt what we will see spinning out of the whole GDP situation. Surely the time will be coming when all of this stuff gets taken down due to copyright / trademark infringement.
We assume its common sense that you cant buy ' a banksy ' for a couple of hundred quid .. when they are thousands, but obviously a lot of people do think they can.. and no doubt display their ebay canvases and WCP prints and proudly tell all their visitors about their Banksy print.. most times not even in the knowledge it isnt.

And yes, they are just cheapening their name. People bid on these things from around the world and basically are thinking they are getting a cheap Banksy, when in fact they are overpaying a lot for tat.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by vickyv on Jun 2, 2020 13:46:47 GMT 1, Yes, that's why I thought I'd highlight it. I emailed and got the following from Penelope:
"I wanted to inform you that there is in fact a small damage to the print that has previously not been taken into account for the condition report.
There is a small burn on the paper, which has not burned through but has left a coloured stain."
She attached some photos which I'll see if I can add here but it looked like the previous Tate & Ward one which did have a pic on here.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Lazarus II on Jun 2, 2020 15:14:44 GMT 1, Its an auction house.. it can sell whatever it wants.. all its doing is cheapening its own name.. why should it be withdrawn and why is it disgusting.. Stuff like this filters through lots of lower tier auction houses month after month.. and thats what it shows.. the level of auction house and how low on that ladder they are willing to go..ย I just dont get the outrage.. if you dont want it.. dont buy it or buy from the auction house.. its your decision to make Id much say the big issue is with WCP copying the artwork.. but thats already been debated to death on here I just don't like the idea of people buying thinking its something that it's not No one likes to get scammed. is this a scam? maybe not, but whoever wins it will feel likes**t, maybe it's a lesson learnt? I know it's down to the buyer to check what WCP means, but most people do trust businesses to be honest (for some reason) Shame these things happen Anyone want to buy my Rolax watch? no but if you have got a Bolex Iโm your man. I dunno if you have ever seen Gary Tank Commander, BBC scotland comedy and Gary bought himself a nice Bolex๐

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Love Is In The Air on Jun 2, 2020 17:00:22 GMT 1, After a slow start someone eventually bid and the unsigned Grannies hammered at 10k, so roughly 13k with fees.
Side point, but surely if someone was selling privately on this forum they would get 10k or more for one of these without having to pay fees? Not sure auction is the way to go with the lower-priced prints atm but guess depends what commission the house is taking.
