I agree, I was also wondering why the box set went so high when you can "buy it now" on eBay for at least half the money.

Yeah I'm sure the person who bought a granny print not long ago for 100 k agrees with you lol upon reading your umpteen posts in recent days it sounds like it was you who bought the expensive Grannies

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by JFCC on Jun 11, 2021 18:27:48 GMT 1, My sincere apologies, I missed that 4 were passed as the auctioneer brought the hammer down and said sold on each one, not passed, which sort of sums up the auction really. Entirely the wrong place to sell them.
So it's a shame to see bitter and twisted back again...to say again even though they were passed they were at Sept 2020 pricing, which is not a bad place to be. There are simple market economics here with the added twist of environment. No retail customers would be there and for most professionals these would have been above their trading level.
Signed Grannies in my opinion is not a ยฃ100k print, but every print will have a record price, but in the fullness of time it will return to that level. But thats not the point is it, not everybody buy art to flip or make a quick buck. Art is a long term bet for most people which will provide a steady above market return and a tremendous amount of pleasure. I hope they enjoy it at whatever price they paid.
So go back to looking for ghosts and conspiracy theories...boring!!

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Happy Shopper on Jun 11, 2021 21:36:23 GMT 1, Only had time for a quick glance at the results earlier, and it strikes me they had very few bidders on ANYTHING! No wonder Banksy prices were less than expected.
Seems someone is a big fan of Stik thoughโฆ which might be a bit suspicious!?

Is this a joke? Is AK47 now issuing unofficial Steve Lazarides style COA's for Stik written on the back of Rizla papers?

Don't know why this guy puts the fees on even though they haven't sold lol
Ps: don't know why it's not on there, but nbg was passed too.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by LJCal on Jun 12, 2021 8:28:01 GMT 1, Anyone denying there has been a large drop in the value of Banksy prints is in full denial, but..... I wouldn't sell through or buy from Chiswick. They have offered many suspect lots in the past and have a terrible reputation. There are some prints on the block with Phillips Monday and that for me is a result worth watching to understand the state of his print market.

Not sure who is denying the market has reset to September 2020 prices which is still a pretty good place to be. And as I said before itโs a function of over supply like any other product or stock on any market.
As for putting fees on the prices again I already explained the auctioneer brought the hammer down and said sold, not lot passed. The hammer price I quoted was correct however as was the observations about the Auction House. Wrong auction house, wrong auction, wrong crowd!!
Phillips has 2 interesting signed lots but is unlikely to set new records there are simply too many people panicking to take the deserved rewards they have earned for being early finders of Banksyโs work. So probably with those as exceptions theyโll bid to sept pricing or pass.
Nothing to gloat about itโs normal market dynamics!

I'm not sure what auction you watched, but he clearly said passed - and on the live update it said "lot passed", too. They weren't sold, that's a fact.
The estimated prices were ridiculous low if you look at the average sale price of these prints. It's pretty bad that they didn't reach the estimate.

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Winchester on Jun 12, 2021 13:31:15 GMT 1, It sounds like the lots didn't meet the reserve as opposed to being passed and compared to the likes of Sothebys they were pretty high. Those bids were quite high.
You know that "lot passed" does mean that the bid wasn't high enough and didn't reach the estimate? Nobody said there were no bids...

I watched the auction live, I posted on what I heard simple as that. Maybe thatโs another conspiracy story! Either way it is all irrelevant, thatโs where the bids got to, end of debate. I am not sure your point? The market is adjusting due to supply and demand? It sits at Sept prices for some pieces, better for others? What are you after, do you want people to shout woe is me and throw themselves of the building? Itโs boring, move on! Art is a long term game not a roll of the dice at a crap table!

Chiswick โข Urban Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by LJCal on Jun 12, 2021 20:07:29 GMT 1, People do understand that any bids under reserve can be โchandelier bidsโ and not actual bids. In other words the bids may be the auctioneer bidding against himself as opposed to a genuine bid. Generally an auctioneer at a live auction will take bids off the wall until one bid increment below the reserve.

The auctioneerโs at Chiswick do this 100% , itโs legal to do it up to reserve I believe. I have sold at Chiswick and believed Iโd sold items only to be told by Chiswick some of the bids were false. I think itโs the norm in auction houses

I remember viewing one of these at Sotheby's in 2019. I thought it may be the same one but the signature looks different so must be another from the edition. The Sotheby's one sold for ยฃ4k...
