Blek Le Rat • The Warrior, by bradk on Mar 3, 2018 14:02:20 GMT 1, Can someone please explain to me why this is a strong image? What is the significance of rats in urban art? 
His explanation as to why he did this was along the lines of: They are the only wild animals living in the city and would survive even if the human race did not, from memory.
Quite an easy image to stencil quickly and gain some attention /notoriety if you think about it and that then spun his name as I understand it - when everyone in Paris started asking why all these rats were popping up!
Banksy's use of the rat continued the trend thereafter some 20 odd years later.....as a fan of Blek le rat I would like to think Banksy adopted this from him but who knows for sure!
For me I love the rat in street art for various reasons.....the main one being the two biggest pioneers IMO have both used them extensively. RAT also being an anagram of ART for me is brilliant too, street art / street rat.
A rat also prefers to appear under the cover of night and goes about his business much like a street artist typically....
Others will no doubt have some deeper more meaningful answers to your question Maven but like all good art ultimately it's open for your interpretation!

Mine arrived today as well. I haven't opened it as i've been out and will probably just take it straight down the framer's. I'm thinking a white frame might set it off nicely.

Took mine to the framers today, i hadn't opened it up until I was there and it too has a deckled edge on the left and bottom. So i've gone with a mount, as i thought it would look weird floated with two straight edges and two deckled.
Also had a tough choice between a black frame or a white frame. I went with white in the end as the rat really stood out with the white frame. Can't wait to get it back next week.
