Art valuation, by nesa on Feb 21, 2018 12:17:13 GMT 1, Hi there,
I've been quoted £350 + VAT by a London based art valuer, to come to my house (in London) to give a valuation for an unsigned numbered Banksy print that I have. I've got a COA from Pest Control for the print.
Does this seem like a realistic price? Does anyone else have experience of getting their works valued?

That seems a bit excessive! My fee is a pint + crisps.

As someone who does insurance quotes on art, 350 sounds a tad high but what they are charging for is the letter for your insurance company. Before shelling out the cash, see if you can find 3 (2 at the min) dealers with the piece and get in writing their price. See if your insurance will accept these as a value. Remember insurance valuation is for replacement tomorrow, not what you might find it for at auction. Hope this helps. A very quick guesstimate on value is add the lower and higher estimates at auction together

Art valuation, by Matt on Feb 27, 2018 20:47:22 GMT 1, Who is your insurer and what exactly are they asking ?
For a single U/S B Print (assuming this is your most valuable art piece), a simple proof of ownership should suffice to be included in any home policy at (almost) no extra cost (unless you live in a treehouse and/or are insured by Tesco).
So 1) Tell the 350£ expert to get bent 2) Ask your insurer exactly what is needed to ascertain value and ownership. 3) If their demands are stupid, insure that 1 print with a specialist (Hiscox is good)
