This will be my first faile, it won't get hung, wife would t allow it, but go into my sons little collection. He's only two so hopefully he hang it up in a few years..

I was expecting something on thicker, matt paper, and the red to be printed as a special colour, over the top of the CMYK stereo... But no.

IMO that comment shows a serious lack of understanding of the breadth of work faile has put out in the last 10 years. And if that were true, Aiko would be killing it right now. I think we all know that's not even close to being the case.

Is this what it looks like when an artist loses value in the market? Really, I think that's a bit harsh and I bet it sells out just the same. Just cause artists have dips in their careers doesn't mean they're not wanted or still collected. Look at Mr. Brainwash(no I'm not a fan) but he still sells quite well. Look at DFace (I am a fan) still sells well. Yes, there are many others too. So best of luck to those that want one (not me) but I am still a fan and Faile has done some amazing art over the years in many different mediums and styles. Additionally, aren't they opening a new show in France and re-opening one of their shows in LA. So what I'm saying is, don't count them out cause they may surprise all you nay-sayers yet. |

Off the top of my head, their older low edition prints circa 2008/2009 range from 2k-2.8k. I think they started on the block prints after that with much higher runs of 100 upwards - those of course were much cheaper. Sub Rosa a couple of years later was slightly under 2k or thereabouts I believe.

I think it captures the feeling and obliviousness of the city/ financial world perfectly.... all along for the ride, reaping extraordinary rewards (gravy train) , partying, living the life .... whilst being part of a business community too important to fail. (A bit like today's politicians!)
I think the price is fair considering they are Hand finished, so each is unique. (Sorry.... not for instant flippers!!)
Faile spoil their fans with works across different price ranges... especially still producing annual works at the lower end ...ie 150 series, show prints, patches, etc. People complain when artists get too expensive (successful), and thus inaccessible to many. These lower price works, should not be compared to the hand finished prints, paintings, works on wood, puzzle boxes, crates, etc .... they are not created equal!!
I don't like all Failes ...or all Banksy's, or all Harland Miller's, or all Invader's..... but I do love their overall body of work. Unlike many others, Faile are not one trick ponies and they have stood the test of time. They have turned down lucrative galleries (including Gagosian), so that they remain in charge of their artistic direction.... and be able to freely experiment. Their museum shows have been fantastic, their recent show in Paris was extraordinary....
Put a Faile on your wall... you won't regret it!

Iโd say be happy that their works are readily available at all kinds of price points and you donโt have to deal with hype. Can easily buy on release day. The quality is better than a lot of works priced 3-5x the price.
