Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 9, 2006 18:16:32 GMT 1, Prints genuinely given as gifts from the artist are signed and not numbered, 2+2 always makes 4, I have made no statement that is clearly incorrect, I am sure your lovely print has a wonderful tale bahind it, but in the cold light of day you have absolutely nothing to back that tale up with, provenance is physical proof, of which you have failed to mention, until proof otherwise a backdoor print with no numbering or signature is exactly that, a backdoor print. I do get fed up having this argument every few weeks, usually with someone who thought they had a full on Banksy print, then gets a bit annoyed when it mught not be the full package. I have nothing against you personally, It is afterall a free speach forum, I have different opinions about authentication then yourself, we should best leave it at that as you wont accept what I am trying to say, and without any type of provenance I wont accept your print as a genuine banksy, neither of us are in any possition where each others opinion matter a jot, so enjoy your print, and frame it nice.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by Daniel Silk on Oct 9, 2006 18:32:04 GMT 1, Snorky you said your self he got handed it straight from the press, be it given by banksy or someone else, all we have is your word, your print, has got NO recognisable or trackable provenance. It is undoubtably from the same print run as are the many other back door prints in circulation, its just not from the official run of prints released by banksy, so whilst its a very nice picture, it is not an official banksy realease as in not one of the 750 released by banksy's representatives, you have said your self that its un numbered and unsigned, therefore a pricey poster if it was to be sold. Provenance is about proof, without PROOF it is a backdoor print.
Foundation,
Your talking to Snorky as if he has it for sale on ebay! I don't think he has ever said about selling it on So as long as he knows it came from Banksy himself whats the problem Who can say when this print was printed? imagine you work at the printers your told to print 750, your gonna do a few extra by mistake, or just to make sure you have enough if a few get damaged in the end those few don't get used in the limited edition or as artists proofs, so they are given out by the artist to friends. Can you see how that would happen? So why do you keep on imagining that some bloke at the printers nicks the screen and takes it home with him to print up some extras for him to sell? if that were true surly ebay would be swamped with them Give me an idea of how many un-numbered Banksy prints you have seen come up on ebay? I think we are talking of about 10 max

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 9, 2006 18:50:01 GMT 1, Silky, between the turfs. monkey queens, variations on wsm, HAND, there are a damn site more than 10 kicking about I know that you are or have been in posession of at least 2, so does that meen there are only 8 others, they appear on ebay on a weekly basis. Some prints are given away, look at punk daisy's collection, or is he a liar?, some are kept aside to replace damaged ones. It is a documanted fact that the printers in bristol customarily printed off extra prints for himself, Banksy got annoyed with this and thats why all printing is done inhouse at POW now, its not a had concept to follow. I assume I am the only person that has a problem with backdoor prints being sold as genuine Banks'ys, as noone else seems to care. I do get anoyed when someone asks if their banksy print is ok, and they are told its A1 100% kosher when it isnt, and alot of buyers would agree with me, including yourself from what you said last week when someone had a problem with an unsigned unnumbered print you sold them, you felt the need to warn them in your description before you sold it, if its all OK why mention it at all.

I've sat on the sidelines and thought about this a little (Unusual for me granted , I've always been against these 'Backdoor prints', gifts, interesting story or not. But with prices as they are I think they're becoming more & more legit ( for what they are), stickers, mugs, t-shirts, fridge magnets.. whatever. F*ck it. The imagery is fantastic and it deserves to be out there in whatever shape or form. As things stand these are well worth a few quid of anyones money. They're never gonna reach the heights of 'real' officiated Banksy's.. but the more we attack them, the more likely people are gonna stick numbers on them. As loads of people are buying legit prints on ebay without provenence then this could be a nightmare with backdoor prints simply being numbered instead of enjoyed and in some cases sold for what they are..i.e either gifts or backdoor prints (same difference).
These images are now only available as 2grand prints, so if they crop up unsigned and unnumbered for 200 quid and people buy em for the image. Then I'm all for it. Maybe there should be a cheaper unlimited litho produced of these older images, most people/fans just want the image and don't care whether it's a collectors piece or not.
And I'm sure Mr B & POW intended the same, otherwise these wouldn't have originally cost 50 quid.
These simply replace the original 'Affordable art' ethos.. or maybe not art, but at least an affordable image of an original print.
Even some Athena prints cost upwards of 50 quid these days..
So yeah, let's give these 'backdoor prints' an ok as long as people aren't trying to flog em for thousands.
What you guys think ?

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 9, 2006 20:04:20 GMT 1, Silk you freely stated last week that you sold one last year, you said today that you would swap for snorky's one as your one wasn't one of the limited ones, that makes 2 that you have had, is this news? This is getting a bit dull now, some people like backdoor prints as a cheaper option of a print, some dont like backdoor prints as they can be used to rip off the unsuspecting, they were never ment to be released, but at least be honest enough that when someone asks for an opinion, give them an honest one rather than the one they really want to hear.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by snorky on Oct 11, 2006 11:52:12 GMT 1, Prints genuinely given as gifts from the artist are signed and not numbered, 2+2 always makes 4, I have made no statement that is clearly incorrect, I am sure your lovely print has a wonderful tale bahind it, but in the cold light of day you have absolutely nothing to back that tale up with, provenance is physical proof, of which you have failed to mention, until proof otherwise a backdoor print with no numbering or signature is exactly that, a backdoor print.
Oh dear- At no point have I ever mentioned selling it or detailed the Prov?
BTW, the Prov. does prove the background & relationship with the the artist, but thats a side issue.
Self rightous blanket statements are not helpful .
When you keep on asking why you seem to get into this argument so often , then maybe you have the answer right in front of you?
have a nice day

To be fair, he said it was an accident. But when people first bought these prints, especially the earlier ones, they had no idea of future value of prints. I've always looked after mine, but I've seen quite a few stuck up on walls with blu-tack, pins or tape.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by jam on Jun 30, 2007 4:43:58 GMT 1, This thread is for photos only for framed HAVE A NICE DAY prints. Rather than spending all that time looking for examples of a this print framed up... you can see and post examples in this thread! This will allow everyone on the board to have a look at what other people have done with each print to see how different mats, frames, and mountings look for each individual print. This should be a good way to save time from searching all over, plus it will give you some nice ideas for your Banksy!
Feel free to add photos of your framed example in each of the appropriate threads, there is a "Framed" thread under each print listed in the 'Banksy Limited Edition Prints' section. To keep each thread manageable and on topic, please refrain from commenting. Also, remember to resize images that may be oversized so everyone can have a proper look at your framing work!

In the 3+ years that I have been following Banksy, I've never seen one for sale. What would it be worth? I have an unsigned and think it is his best image. Good luck.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by Poppy Sunshine on Jun 15, 2008 8:01:48 GMT 1, Thanks very much for the warnings. I'm far from an expert so would always appreciate comments and help with authentication etc. In answer to the other questions, I have sold a few things recently and am hoping to pick up some bits and tick a few boxes at the right prices in the current climate. I also have a friend who is new to collecting but with ample funds and a big list so I'm trying to help out. Thanks again for the concern, it's what I love about this forum.
