I never said anything about anyone getting burnt 2.7k for a signed anything by Hirst is good value, but again IMO the big flipper profits have definitely left the building. If short term profit is your motivation as I suspect LithographRoberts Is I would suggest there is better places to gamble your sheckles.

Ffs I’m not. But that is what 90% of the back and forth on this thread is about. That’s why it’s gone on so long. And let’s be honest most people when spending a few grand on a print have to consider future value.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by Coach on Aug 9, 2018 13:28:36 GMT 1, Isn't that easy to see? With H5 released so close to H4...and an edition of 800...the market has been flooded somewhat....Now here's my opinion: due to this, these may not sell with as much of a profit as previous Hirst releases if that's your intention - hence being burnt if you think these will bring (a lot of) easy money. I am more interested in hearing the art market genius explain how people are going to get burned.
I’m not interested in whether there’s a profit to be made, but hang on a minute, suggesting that there’s been a flooding of the market because of 800 prints, when your talking about an artist as well known and widely collected as Hirst, is surely not right. With an international following, and a cv like his, 800 prints is a tiny number. It may be that collectors on here are spoilt for choice. But many more people collect Hirst than are on this forum.

I'm sure many on this forum only buy his art because he is famous and not because they find meaning in what he creates. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm one of those people.
Despite all that, His pieces are worth less the more of it there is out there, as with all art. That might not sound 'right' to you, but that's the way it is.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by Express Post on Aug 9, 2018 13:45:48 GMT 1, People gotta take note that there is a difference between H4 and H5 and within those series the editions are also different.
For tomorrow's release, some are going to like the small spots, some are going to like the big spots. Some will want the black background, others the white.
The good thing about these is that these will be limited to 100 each and are affordable by Hirst's standards.
Keep agonising over the money, then you are doing it wrong. The flip on these is not life changing, so focus on creating wealth elsewhere.

Its like a bragging rights thing?

You like the Dots? Its dotty right?? hahahaha, now darling come have a wine or 2, and come look at these other artists I have on the wall that you will not have heard of '

Some H5 editions with the black background might not sell out right away, and subsequently might be available to emailers. However it is possible these might also be hoovered up at preview night.
If H6 editions are coming, I hope they are butterflies.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by 1000steps on Aug 9, 2018 16:20:20 GMT 1, Despite all that, His pieces are worth less the more of it there is out there, as with all art. That might not sound 'right' to you, but that's the way it is. While true from the standpoint of 'supply-and-demand' economic theory, this perspective does not account for the promotional effects of broad market exposure, which is without a doubt a major factor in aftermarket price determination. Any artist must reach a 'critical mass' of exposure in order to be considered popular and collectible. Commercially successful artists tend to have larger portfolios - the market exposure is part of what drives their popularity. Conversely, most talented new artists must build portfolios before they receive due recognition and their works begin to appreciate in value.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by Chris JL on Aug 9, 2018 18:20:47 GMT 1, Did any Tate member figure out the exact protocol for the print launch? At what time is the private reception? 7pm or is that the time for the general public? Is the queuing for members too? (I’d assume so since almost every other Londoner is a member...) I'm a Tate member. I have been told 7pm to 9pm. By the way, there is no "general public" time. It's Heni invites and Tate members only. There was no RSVP for Tate members; we are told to just turn up on the door.
Thanks a lot. And see you there I guess :-)

Uhm, sounds like a brilliant theory. Imagine if Picasso had painted only one piece in his lifetime - it would be trading for trillion dollars now! Or maybe (probably) it would be worth nothing, since you would reply to my post saying “Picasso, who?” 😊
(PS what’s wrong with your argument? Demand, and supply, are endogenous - but even some econ students still get this wrong)

Coach (I think) said they look like a gliclee of a photo (which they are), so I agree they don't look as nice as if they were screen printed, but they still look nice to me. Also, the smaller dots look better (IMO) in real life than they do on the website.
The shop is open now and the pieces are up on the wall.
The staff said that they will come out to the queue and give people numbered registrations of interest forms and as long as you are in the first 100 requesting that particular piece, you will get it. Not sure of any gallery allocations etc.
As mentioned, Tate members get 10% off.
They chap working here said that I was mad if I started queuing at 4.30pm as he thought there was no need. But I do like these and would feel like a total fool if I was in the pub and missed out. I queued for 18 hours on Commercial Street once with some of you and so this is easy.

It's pissing it down! Totally put me off, I hope you brought an umbrella...? I'm there now (I work opposite).
