If i was the owner i'd be ringing now flatout to withdraw it

I think the quality of the auction house and the audience is the major swing. I think the only way to get a true value of this edition is to put more to the hammer.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by alessandro on Jan 29, 2019 17:42:45 GMT 1, You can attempt to challenge what I said after the first auction. However, the points you raised were flawed, and you seemed rather uneducated on auctions and the use of estimates to attract buyers. I would recommend to you to conduct some more research on the current state of auction houses and the wider market.
I still believe, and it seems some other members agree that this was a low price driven by the poor auction house. I will also point out that I wrote that the Phillips auction result was an indication that the current offerings on eBay were too low and that they should correct themselves because of the high result. They have done that, and we have seen another result above what eBay listings were originally posted at.

(They know who they are.) My previous comments following the Phillips auction had nothing to do with "estimates" but had everything to do with the realised prices. I don't think 8K was a particularly low price. I think it was a fairly good price actually considering they sold for 3K just one year ago. I would agree, however, that Forum auctions are not the best place to sell stuff but then again, Phillips is not the best place to buy stuff either. Phillips is never a good indicator of current prices because of that fact.

So much vested interest its hard to make head nor tail of what is being attempted with a lot of these posts.
( I dont own any of them just for reference )

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by Chris JL on Jan 29, 2019 18:05:22 GMT 1, Just for the record. An (English type) auction selling price result reveals only one thing: the 2nd highest valuation in the population of bidders (but not the highest).
Corollary: i) auctions with a broader public deliver (in expectation) higher prices and ii) the selling price of such an auction is (very close to) an upper bound on the current value of the item (only the auction winner has a higher valuation).
