Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by ctc2 on Oct 30, 2007 3:06:53 GMT 1, I agree that if it is money you are into it is far too premature to speculate on future value. The art world is littered with those who were hot for a moment and then not. Hot for the moment in art terms can be 10-15 years. On the subject of Morons, I understand the appeal it has to some. However, it really has not grown on me. I really should not have purchased it but did when it popped up while those in the U.K. were asleep. Kind of just a reaction. I guess I will get negged but I am just being honest.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by jonpud on Oct 30, 2007 9:15:39 GMT 1, Disagree, Morons actually says something, it has a great message, what is the message with Barcode? What is the message with Barcode!?!?!?!?! mate cumon! Your into Morons because its the Banksy print you have...i understand, you get attatched to an image if you own it, im the same but come on... - no message in Barcode!!! are you mad! This is easy, never lock up your pet leopard behind a barcode. It simply isn't strong enough to keep him contained, use a steel cage instead!
Hope I have been of some assistance!

I have no intention of selling my PRINTS.
Why? Got any PRINTS you're intending to make a fortune with?

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by pezlow on Oct 30, 2007 10:22:53 GMT 1, Banksy is the warhol of our generation. His art speaks to people who have never been interested in art before. He gets out there and makes people laugh and makes people think. Over 2 million copies of Wall and Piece have been sold. This is astounding for an art book.
Banksy is not a short term phenomenon now.
As for print prices who knows, who cares. Let's enjoy the moment of being part of this incredible art movement.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by pw on Oct 30, 2007 13:07:48 GMT 1, i do think that the earlier signed prints will become more desirable and valuable due to the smaller edition sizes. but now might be a good time to pick up a bargain print on ebay when everyone is going hysterical about trollies and not watching ebay for the earlier prints. there are a few nice signed and unsigned ones for sale at the moment.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by darjeeling on Oct 31, 2007 5:12:09 GMT 1, But does anyone expect that Sale Ends or Festival will be such a large edition? I'm guessing just 150 signed 500 unsigned of which only about 350-400 will be released on POW. That's smaller or equal to a number of earlier prints. Trolleys was a large run but that image is one of his most desirable in a long time. But hopefully prices will be low for those who missed out.
And seems like there's always a couple people who like Morons. I think the statement is great but it's a pretty boring and uninspiring piece to look at on the wall. And 40k for a barcode? Wake me up when that happens (if ever)... I'll probably be dead 100 years.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by greeneny on Oct 31, 2007 16:40:14 GMT 1, I've been collecting art for more then 30 years much of it prints that I began to buy in the late 1970's. I bought only what I liked and never for investment. Many of the more expensive prints I bought are worth no more today then what I paid 30 years ago. Some are worth a little more. The signed Warhol "Mao" that I paid $800 for in the late 1970's is worth lots more. Who knew? I loved it then and I love it now although it was recently stolen from the frame shop I took it to for UV glass - but since recovered - damaged. I'll restore it and hang it back on the wall where it was for 27 years. It was never about the money. Banksy is very much like Warhol and I doubt his work will depreciate. In fact it feels very much like a "Warhol" moment and others aside from Banksy will walk thru the door Banksy is opening. If you like your art, hold onto it and enjoy it. If you don't, sell it and let someone else love it. That's just my two cents from a relatively new member here.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by greeneny on Nov 1, 2007 4:35:53 GMT 1, I was pretty upset and thought it was gone forever. Then when the police called me to tell me it was returned it was one of those : I have good news and bad news" conversations. I was just happy it was returned but heartbroken when I saw the police photos of the damage. I think I can restore it but never like it was. The girl who was an employee of the shop will end up with a felony conviction for Grand Larceny. She'll have a conviction record forever. Had it been returned undamaged I doubt she would have indicted but everyone was really upset about how thoughtless it was to unnecessarily damage the piece. The aspect that really surprised me was how everyone, the District Attorney, and Grand Jury all had this notion that art belonged to everyone and I was just the gatekeeper. So when these people destroyed the piece, they damaged it for everyone. I thought that was very cool.

I hope your piece was insured or there is a way for you to recover your damages against the framer. As an aside - I've had works fixed by professional conservators/restorers - and you'd be amazed at the wonders they can do.

I know what that predicament is like. I won a sweet promo Fresh Jive framed ol dirty bastard print which was sent special post etc but arrived with the glass in the frame completely smashed and it had hacked up the print really bad. Luckily for me the company sent me another different print and I had the original reframed.
I guess the upside is knowing that there is still another Mao in existence. There must be a lot less Banksy's in existence than were issued due to throw-away nature of cheap prints and a primary audience of 20-somethings with a penchant for beer.

Since then I've picked up a few banksy's, and failes (I think they are second best) and blek's. I love all the prints I have bought and none were for investment only..................I really do think banksy has opened the door, and even obey (showing and sold out in London) has him to thank even though he was first................Its just so great that art is being popularised again. It makes sense really, I mean who the fuck gets tracey emin, hirst, sarah lucas etc? and if you do then why should it be so inaccessable to the general public...........£50m for a diamond skull................genius, pompous, pretentious and skullduggery....................roll on street art

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by greeneny on Nov 1, 2007 15:45:03 GMT 1, Here's one of the police pics - if I've managed to post it correctly. It looks decent until you see the other pics where all the creases are and on the reverse of course they managed to tear almost into the signature and there is one puncture although not on the image. I think it can be restored enough for me to enjoy it again but the question is after almost a year of all the angst surrounding this piece now, maybe its an omen and time to let it go and perhaps but a Banksy or Faile or Bast where the Warhol was ...

When I thought the Mao was gone for good, I began to go hunting for another. Warhol had 10 different Mao prints in different colors and there's only two I really liked. The one I had and still wanted was the most difficult to find just because most people who had bought Warhol back then just treated them as if they had expensive posters and never cared for them like they would have had they been water colors or oils. .And so most were damaged - stuck to the glass of thirty year old frames, never hung properly and washed out from the sun - all sorts of things had happened to these prints over 30 years time. Moral of story is take care of your art. Make sure its framed properly, UV glass and insure it in case something unexpected happens like a pipe bursting or your upstairs neighbor's pipes burst.
And thanks for the all the welcomes. Frankly I haven't seen this sort of excitement in the art world since the Warhol days. But what's happening now is unique to this time. It has shades of Warhol but Banksy, Faile, Fairey, Bast, Le Rat, Neat and many more and certainly places like this forum are all about this particular moment in time and its incredible in my opinion.
So ... nice to have discovered this place.

Do you realise that 15 years ago before forums and newsgroups were around intelligent, well informed people actually existed.
Posting online is not an indication of knowledge.
PS, Both Barcode and Trolleys remind me of Farside cartoon circa 1995, not clever or original. Please neg away, I thrive on it.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by pastiepie on Nov 3, 2007 7:47:52 GMT 1, fecam I won it in a competition from a magazine called Frankie early last year. They used the design on a t-shirt and at the Fresh Jives stores often have framed prints up so I'm guessing it was a spare one of those.
I've looked for other Fresh Jive prints but haven't found any and there is no Fresh Jive store in my city but I'm sure if you befriended an employee they wouldn't be too expensive to purchase.

sh*t!!! that's me f*cked then
greeney man, it's so interesting hearing you speak and your incite in to art 'then and now'. it's heartbreaking just hearing the story of your Mao print, can't Begin to imagine what it felt like to go through. i think these thing have a habit of working out for the best, your print is now damaged so obviously it's monetary value is seriously compromised but it's aesthetic worth is for you is what matters and i would urge you to hang on to it and continue to enjoy it. if the enjoyment is now tainted by the bad memories then i understand but i think it came back for a reason, albeit damaged.
maybe with the insurance/compensation you could buy a few other bits, maybe even by banksy, and add them to the Warhol? i can see Mao sitting very pretty with the majority of Banky's work, there are a lot of parallels for me.
welcome to the forum, great to have you on board and hope to speak with you more in the future.

Posting online is not an indication of knowledge. sh*t!!! that's me f*cked then greeney man, it's so interesting hearing you speak and your incite in to art 'then and now'. it's heartbreaking just hearing the story of your Mao print, can't Begin to imagine what it felt like to go through. i think these thing have a habit of working out for the best, your print is now damaged so obviously it's monetary value is seriously compromised but it's aesthetic worth is for you is what matters and i would urge you to hang on to it and continue to enjoy it. if the enjoyment is now tainted by the bad memories then i understand but i think it came back for a reason, albeit damaged. maybe with the insurance/compensation you could buy a few other bits, maybe even by banksy, and add them to the Warhol? i can see Mao sitting very pretty with the majority of Banky's work, there are a lot of parallels for me. welcome to the forum, great to have you on board and hope to speak with you more in the future.
