Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by corblimeylimey on Oct 19, 2007 15:04:17 GMT 1, <<You should tell him to come over and do some photography in England and to visit...>> Yes, i did ! But it's funny how England seems to be another world for him ! (he doesn't speak the language and is much more a "man of the south")... He gave me a CD with lots of stuff from the 80s, I'll add them to my flickr some day... (he isn't into internet at all !!!) He exhibits his photos sometimes and he's a painter too (but nothing to do with street art !), his name is Paul Vianet. I suggested he should publish a book with his "vintage" pictures... there are lots of other photographers over here who spend their time taking pics of street art : Gérard Faure, Vito, Michel Longhi, Tofz4u, Gérard Laurent (Oncle Tom), Roswitha Guillemin, Thierry Geffray, etc... They have thousands of photos of stencils... Michel has a reference site : "paris-pochoirs" www.parispochoirs.com/galerie/category.php?cat=75&start=60But the site hasn't been updated for quite a while... Thierry's site : www.chez.com/lesmursmurs/Roswitha has a nice site too (mail art & street art) www.roswitha-guillemin.com/index.htmOncle Tom also has a site : www.lapanse.com/lapanse.html
Great links...

Really? I've had a few people at work come up to me and ask me who Banksy was after the recent publicity.
Interestingly, the two other Brits at work had never heard of him. But one of them had never heard of Angelina Jolie either. I rubbed the top of his plastic bubble and moved on.

Hello? Been reading the recent threads here? I reckon you could keep this entire board happy in a large shed with some mixdecks, an old skateboard or two, a bmx bike and a tv showing 1970s kids programmes....

Oh well now I really know how ripper and all your non-UK based people must feel.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters, by Jef Aerosol on Oct 19, 2007 21:55:31 GMT 1, Nuart, I know Banksy is big in the UK and in the US, but I only discovered him about two years ago ! And a lot of my fellow street artists have only very vaguely heard of him ! You see, some people aren't into this web thing at all, they don't belong to forums and things like that. Some of them don't speak english at all... As i said, people here see lots of stencils on the street by people like Miss tic, Epsylon Point, etc... They never see anything by Banksy. Besides, some people think Blek doesn't paint much any longer as he doesn't exhibit in France at all and i don't think he's done anything on the street since his Florence Aubenas. i met some street artists at la Nuit Blanche in Paris the other day who thought he had totally stopped painting ! I myself wasn't aware at all he was having a career outside france, in fact... Last time we met was a while ago for the Stencil Project in 2004 and I don't think that "street art revival" had really started yet... I didn't know about Banksy at that time. Here, the "prints" phenomenon doesn't exist at all ! there's only one gallery that exhibits only street art and 2 or 3 others that exhibit street art among other things. Nowhere here will you find prints by street artists... I didn't know about those "street art prints" at all ! I discovered that thing only a couple of months ago when I was led to this forum by Ragnar of Blind Angle who got in touch with me after he saw some of my paste ups in London, in july... See, I've been stencilling for 25 years and only released my first print in september ! People here just don't believe me when i tell them that in england people QUEUE to buy prints ! And the photographers I know who have been real fans of street art for years and don't know Banksy don't live apart from the world, i swear ! Banksy is only a name, whose work can't be seen over here, so photographers take pics of what they see in their cities ! As for what you say and think about Banksy, i totally agree with you ! As a great fan of british humour, i can only be a fan of Banksy's pics ! cheers
