Delivery Insurance, by rambo901 on Aug 3, 2018 19:32:08 GMT 1, Hi
Not really sure where to put this thread - I have a question about insuring art when sending items. What does everyone do?
It seems quite expensive (quotes coming out at £120+) for items worth around 3k. Yes in reality not a high price to pay but trying to get a buyer to pay it won't happen.
Any thoughts/help would be appreciated
Thanks

So for a 3K item should be 30 quid + VAT.....

Thanks for that. I can't seem to work it out at all. Cheapest insurance I've been quoted is 85. Don't think destination would be a factor

Even though you can pay for as much coverage as you want, I think you'll find the majority do not cover art - alongside a huge list of other items.

Indeed, some online shipping companies can be sneaky.

Insurance is mostly still valid in case it gets lost in transport. Doesn't really matter if it's art or a laptop. In case of damage it might get complicated indeed.
So packing it very well is key here, especially with a 3K piece.
I've had damaged art pieces paid by Insurance though. Those were 50 or 150 though.

Anything high value if sending tubed, I pack it properly then put it inside a box filled with bubble wrap for extra protection.
The whole box would need to be crushed for the artwork to be damaged. Might cost slightly more dimensions and weight wise but it's worth it.
Anything under a grand i'm happy with a decent tube in the UK or a big Graffiti prints one for the US.

A triangle is much stronger then a square box. And more difficult to stack as it is an odd shape, so it won't be in the bottom of a pile.
I received one once from FedEx or UPS. But also easy to make by folding.
