Banksy • Trolley Hunters Coloured , by jp on Dec 12, 2020 2:38:23 GMT 1, I post full realized prices with all fees and VAT on the site and this is clearly stated everywhere possible. If I posted hammer prices I would get the same feedback but from the sellers. So please don’t accuse me of manipulating unless there are facts. If you want to discuss or make suggestion to methodology I am happy to take the input. PS. Private market prices depend a lot on the print and can be ranging from below recent hammer to above recent full result. But "somewhere between hammer and full price" is good rule of thumb. One-off results also dont mean that the print has immediately gone up. Why would you get the same feedback from sellers? If you're posting the hammer price, then that would be an indicator of what a seller should expect to get? If they sell at Auction that would be the marker... If you are running a site where prospective auction buyers use it as a guideline, thats one thing, but you are also buying and selling prints directly through this site yourself so surely you would want to buy them at a price which allows you to turn a profit. When you’re buying, do you offer the seller hammer price minus fees as advertised? Or do you offer them Hammer plus more as you’re concerned about them complaining? Come on now...lets not take us simpleton forum members as complete idiots. I think that you have put together a really decent database and I am not looking for an argument about it. I am a collector and have been for years. I have items which may go up or down in value. I just feel that it would be more transparent and forthcoming to publish the Hammer prices along with the final sales price. People on this forum should be able to see the prices that the seller received just as much as the prices that the buyer paid. I have lost count of the amount of times where someone has sent me a screenshot from Banksy Value on something I am looking to buy and said “This is whats is worth” Thats absolute bollocks and we all know that the item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Private sales are difficult to manage at this level and people will often go to Auction to get that guarantee (which we have also seen can sometimes go wrong). Some auction results are also rather suspect and it really doesn't take a lot for them to be manipulated. If you or anyone else on here thinks for one minute that some auctions aren’t fixed then I would say, that is being a bit naive. Its been going on for years. Also selling signed or even unsigned prints without COA at auction is an accident waiting to happen. I have been offered prints without COAs at significantly less than the average price from current results. I would never buy a print from an Auction without one. But I would buy one privately that I can view in person, communicate directly with the seller and liaise with PCO about the provenance etc I think you are making this harder than it needs to be.
We all know seller gets hammer minus fees (if any). Buyer pays hammer plus fees. It's up to you to negotiate a number in between. Expecting a seller to ignore the price with fees is unrealistic.
When print prices are rising and we have weekly auctions to help gauge the market, you are going to have to make a convincing argument to the seller that they should give up their print. That is not likely to happen if you try to negotiate at the hammer price.

I’ll let my U/S BH go for 100k USD.

I am with you on most of these points you mention. I think jp has put it the best. Most educated buyers / sellers know exactly the fee structure and the suspicious nature of one-off auction results etc. and the negotiation happens somewhere in between. But given all the debate I will spend some time and add an option to enable / disable BP, ARR and VAT on banksy-value.com so the users can look at it from both buyer and seller point of view. It will take me some time, but I commit to rolling that out. Especially since e.g. VAT would not be paid by foreign bidders it will also help for other use-cases.

Come on now...lets not take us simpleton forum members as complete idiots. I pay at least hammer plus a few percent unless there is a clear single outlier auction. I think getting a print for hammer or hammer-minus nowadays is unrealistic, but that may very well change if the market starts to move in the other direction.

Further, if you buy in auction you will pay Hammer + premium + VAT + ARR unless you are exporting it in which case VAT will be replaced by an import a tariff.
Most people do not fully understand fees and the full price paid is clearly the best marker. If you buy on the private market at less than that you have a "bargain", its pretty simple!!
Also, most people who are buying are savvy enough to know that the hammer price will have been 30 - 35% less the quoted price. Personally I find the Auction House listed prices much more confusing as you do not always know what is included in the resultant price shown.
As for no COA again I would not advocate buying without one, possibly you are an expert and can identify a real item from a fake or a forgery, a problem for a well known Auction house, personally I cannot and so I would use the Pest Control Authentication service or wait for the seller to have applied for a COA and got one. In today's market why take an expensive risk?

PCO are in no hurry whatsoever to issue COAs for works bought at Auction. If you need examples of this, it wont be difficult to find them. However within the world of private sales, they have been reasonably quick to respond and issue the COAs. As far as any expensive risk, well I am definitely not an expert but I have a pretty decent understanding and experience when it comes to Signed Banksy prints. I have bought and sold quite a few over the years and I suppose I know what I am looking for. A good friend of mine wanted to buy a signed HC a few months ago which didnt have a COA, he showed me the images, which looked spot on, had some direct communication with the seller and PCO, and the deal was done and a good one at that. If you are saying that by paying less than the last Final Value fee, I would be getting a bargain is an unusual way of looking at it. If a seller sells at Auction and gets £45k, but the buyer has paid £54-£55k then a private sale at £50k would be a fair result for the next seller. A bargain would be paying under £45k. Its all retrospective and neither right nor wrong. Its just what side of the fence you choose to sit on.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters Coloured , by miked32 on Feb 16, 2021 1:34:57 GMT 1, Does anyone have an idea on what the value is of Trolley Hunters, unsigned BXW, low 100's, frame, excellent condition with a COA?
Also, I have read there was a series of 500 unsigned from 2006 and one series from 2007. The difference I think is the paper and the weapon in the hand? One looks like a cross tool and one is a cone. The one I have has the cone in the hand.
thanks

Yours is the LA edition.
The paper is also cream with a white border - and maybe the signature is black?

This is a useful site to see latest auction results. I think the last result was at a Japanese auction where results tend to be high but should give you an idea of price. Great print.
banksy-value.com/individual.php?printn=Trolleys%20(BW)&edition=Unsigned
I’d hazard a guess of around £40k privately for the edition of 500 but presumably the edition of 100 may go for a little higher. I’m sure someone who knows better than me will chime in though.

Banksy • Trolley Hunters Coloured , by Snakes on Feb 19, 2021 20:02:51 GMT 1, Found this thread fascinating. Downside is I think I will have to sell my unsigned trolley hunters as there is no way I can afford to insure it to stay on my wall at those prices 😢
Next problem is to establish how to sell something at these sort of prices. Is there an assistance thread?

Good price.... There's been a few poor results recently with the "wrong auction", but I still think this is an easy £75,000 print any day of the week from a gallery.

I'm sure it'll fly.

What time are you planning the ‘BOOMS’ on the 18th?

Good price.... There's been a few poor results recently with the "wrong auction", but I still think this is an easy £75,000 print any day of the week from a gallery. I don't mean to derail the thread or cause a stir but... I received an email/newsletter from Hidden Gallery this morning and their asking price for Colour Trollies is £67,000. I was actually quite surprised that the price was openly disclosed. It's always POA these days when I receive emails from galleries stating they have Banksy prints in inventory.
hiddengallery.co.uk/content/feature/39/artworks-1690-banksy-trolleys-colour-2007/
P.S. They have a bunch of Banksy prints with disclosed prices for those who are curious to see where it's at this week with gallery pricing. With the way things are going, those prices will not be valid for long.

Is Hidden Gallery really selling Barcode at £60k? Is there something wrong with it as they should be £75-80k at gallery prices? sorry to move off the thread. Strange times!!
