The Specials & 'Friends' Back In The Studio., by skAcid on Oct 30, 2018 18:50:26 GMT 1, Thereโs the Empire but perhaps couldnโt get it. Or the fact that the venue is more like Rock City and not what is required on what looks like a Hall tour.
Hall as in hall not Terry hall tour. ๐

If they wanted big thereโs the Ricoh Arena. Big enough for the Sly Blues and Wasps. Or thereโs smaller venues within the arena.

Hey plenty of venues in Cov. It will be a massive tour date addition at half way or the end. It will definitely be added. They played there last on June 2nd with the Rolling Stones. So fancy it will be a really big one.

One of my very favourite bands. Took my kids to see them live when they were much younger. Specials version is good. But I tend to prefer Tootsโ.

Well, Toots have still made Lps and gigs on the late 70 ( with the ska revival ). I saw Peter Tosh in 78 ( I even donโt remember when he has been killed ) too .. All the ska bands were great, magical, and very professional already as if they never stopped to repeat, fascinated by the pioneers of the ska. I loved them all but i also reckon that all the old ska, calypso , Trojan , Blue beat. etc etc ., have a certain charm with their slowest beat, their voice from the noise and this far away sound .. we could smell Jamaรฏca in the towns.. the last ska wave ( from 78 ) was great too but more urban.

The Specials & 'Friends' Back In The Studio., by Dibbs 45 on Nov 4, 2018 12:46:53 GMT 1, Saw the specials few years back and as always thought they were the nuts. I remember "do the dog" came on and braces were pinging everywhere. John Bradbury was alive then and hammering those drums. A great night in London. Even in the pub before it was like a time warp. Although most people who were there were middle-aged men, it still felt like a necessary pilgrimage. Both pub and gig had a great atmosphere.
I'm biased as I'm an old rude boy. But glad to hear a new albums on its way. Check out The Don LEtts skinhead documentary on iplayer. Worth a view.

Still makes the hairs on he back of my neck stand up just thinking about it as everyone was so hyper with them being back in their hometown! Happy Days!!

The Specials & 'Friends' Back In The Studio., by rbk on Nov 4, 2018 18:45:36 GMT 1, The real venue in Cov was the Old Hand and Heart. That was before it all became big. The real grunge Ex punk reggae ska development . It was a banging little spot on the old days where it really happened. There were a few bands that were there the likes of Hardtop and the Automatics that all split re emerged with new members and names and became Selector Specials etc the 2Tone label. There was a whole core that did not make it big but it was magic. Jerry D had a great brain and did so much for all of the crew. The big ones are known but loads did not become big but were top draw part of the Cov scene back then. Magic times

Extended intro because Terry chipped off for a piss.

So true, Wankelings voice was well and truly fucked on the Jools Holland Hottananny show. As for the Ranking Roger replacement he had, please ๐
