Paper Conservators in London?, by Poster Bob on Oct 11, 2018 0:00:57 GMT 1, It isn't just you, it is many people. I would recommend the following:
1) Take pictures at home and note every single imperfection on the print. Take this with you and make sure everything has been noted
2) Cross-reference this when you collect the work to make sure they have actually fixed everything
3) When you collect the work insist upon inspecting it under bright lights. The lighting is so poor that things are often missed
I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have taken a cab there to go home empty-handed having been given an apology for yet another print that hasn't been fully repaired.

Paper Conservators in London?, by Chris JL on Oct 11, 2018 1:34:21 GMT 1, Well, a valid alternative to the usual name (with whom I only had good experiences btw) is the conservation team at John Jones. JJ is like Tiffany, prices included ๐.

"His work" virtually everything that goes in there is handed out to employees or self employed conservators renting space. It's a raffle who you end up with.
I stopped using London based conservators, they're too expensive and often up their own ....
Last used Angela Geary in Wells, Somerset. Excellent knowledge, perfect results, done by the person you are talking too.
Often heading out of the big smoke pays dividends.

Closing down? Why? And where does this news come from?

Paper Conservators in London?, by Sundowner on Oct 22, 2018 16:15:09 GMT 1, I can thoroughly recommend Foley & Schalkx Conservators (https://www.foleyschalkxconservation.com) who are based near Walthamstow. Quicker and cheaper than others I have used in London (not to mention the detail of the work that needs to be completed is provided up front on the quote before work commences).

Paper Conservators in London?, by Chris JL on Oct 22, 2018 18:08:48 GMT 1, Closing down? Why? And where does this news come from? I work with the main framers in Hoxton and Angel. Two people mentioned it to me. Not the one I would have thought would go first. Apparently, its been very badly managed for the past few years and they had to get rid of a lot of staff.
Thanks for the info. Quite surprising - just their private art collection is worth a little fortune...

Paper Conservators in London?, by Ruggs on Oct 30, 2018 13:49:30 GMT 1, I've used Graham Bignell fairly recently. My print had a crease (top, left corner) and minute handling marks. I had it humidified and pressed. I received it in perfect condition. I felt it was a bit expensive though.
