Where are you able to buy his prints that don't sell out?

They mark up the price. I wouldn't say that this is the price at source.

Agree with what has been written above.
It’s a combination of:
- accessibility: you have to be in Japan
- price: they aren’t super cheap at source
- quantity: few hundreds for each and when he releases, it’s several different prints. There is honestly not shortage
- attractiveness: maybe more subjective, but we see his flowers everywhere (clothing, events, etc). It’s becoming less about Art and more about Merchandising. We buy to consume not to enjoy or invest.

They're almost all Lithographs... many with metallic layers.

Which 'fad'? To me ( over here in good old London ) there is no 'fad' for Murakami. It feels more like his stuff has always been around with no high and no low. 

"...the market will be flooded..." - the market is probably not flooded but there is certainly no shortage of his stuff.

Although Murakami is a cultural icon, due to his many collaborations with notable brands, his prints are all editions of 300 (as kfroms stated previously). Most of them are offset prints and I feel like the imagery is stale at this point, as he has not changed his style over the years. Most round flower balls and DOB are 4 colour offsets, , some images exist in both (e.g., 2103 vs. 2106 versions of the 727 prints), and a lot of stuff before 2013 is more likely to be a screen

    

I own 15 or so Murakami prints. 6 are silkscreens the rest offset lithos. His edition of /300 I would venture to guess are all offset lithos. All my silkscreens are edition of /50 and /100.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the offset lithos as many of them have the metallic layers that make them really pop. My only issue with Murakami is the re-hashing of images with slight color tweaks. I don't know how many version of "Homage to..." he has but it seems there's a re-issue every 2 years.

Of the offsets I haven't collected anything past 2010. I can't verify if there's a quality difference between the recently printed and pre-2013 lithos but his older stuff tends to command a premium. If you're looking as an investment then edition of /50, /100, older lithos are all great. Figures and plush flowerball have all really taken off thanks to the KAWS effect.
