Passepartout-advice, by mack on Oct 26, 2018 18:39:59 GMT 1, Hello,
So I have some prints that I am planning on framing myself and I have a question I was hoping someone on here could help me with: The passepartout should be equally thick on all sides, right? I was talking to a cashier at an art store who said it should be broader on either the horizontal or vertical side (she wasn't sure which one) to make it look the best. Is that true? If so, which one?
This is my first time framing something, any and all advice is welcome!

My Barcode is framed like this and it probably does look better. (Had it framed 13/14 years ago)

Passepartout-advice, by avec art on Nov 9, 2018 17:08:14 GMT 1, Yes, I think it's convention to have the top and bottom of it slightly wider than the sides. I've had passepartout made where it is even all the way around, and for some reason when you do this, it actually appears too narrow on tops and bottoms. Something to do with how it can be partly concealed by the frame (depending on viewing angle) possibly.
I don't often use them though preferring to use spacers.

For passepartout advice, what I typically do when abroad is just ring up my local consulate.
