New BANKSY stall, by Chris JL on Nov 7, 2018 0:55:57 GMT 1, Lots on the bay which is no massive surprise - I’m sure it will double tomorrow
A ton indeed. And many knockoffs already (some quite “creative”)

New BANKSY stall, by letterpressed on Nov 7, 2018 1:02:42 GMT 1, In that case it’s poor trimming on the guilly.
I think it’s probably a design choice to have the bottom border a bit bigger than the top, It’s not unusual 👍🏻 Indeed. But one print has 2mm less than the other on top and, on the same print, I just realised that one side has 3mm more white than the other... (the total space is 1cm on one side and 0.7cm on the other). I think Lroy is right: these were printed (or at least cut) quite in a hurry (and since the beginning, since my print was picked up early in the morning). Or maybe it’s just designed to send your framer crazy 😊

New BANKSY stall, by swissmade on Nov 7, 2018 1:10:07 GMT 1, Don’t have it at hand at the moment, but a few millimetres difference between the prints. And already the (crappy phone) image above has much more white at the bottom than at the top. It means one thing : these posters has been done and printed quickly - maybe not at he same time - from the same link that Banksy generously put on its website. Now, how people having the real one ( or the flippers ) will could show and prove the « authenticity » of their poster ? To put a pic of the rubber band 😂 😂 😂 in the pic 2 !!! Ahahah !! Yeah Lroy absolutely, provenance is everything. That rubber band is suddenly worth more than the poster! Fuck! where did I throw that rubber band?!

New BANKSY stall, by Chris JL on Nov 7, 2018 1:21:58 GMT 1, I'll ask again cause no one wanted to answer. Why did banksy feel the need to advertise free stuff?
No need. They just stated what they planned to do. The print distribution is part of the happening. And the lines and flippers etc make it all more surreal, and so by design.
Tons of these prints will be flipped, polluting eBay, this forum, and the secondary auction sites, and people in the first world will make a buck out of it - out of something taken for free from the third world. As usual, Banksy’s metaphors are spot on.
But that’s not all. The flipping itself becomes a vehicle of political propaganda - the print is, explicitly and literately, a reminder and a denunciation of a state of occupation. Banksy let’s its work being exploited by the profit seekers, but it does so by design - he exploits the exploiters, since they become part of his political messaging machine.
Since I know where u come from, and as much as I like JR, the difference is that JR is a good artist that has good intention - while Mr B instead, simply, is a genius.

Yeah it does. It fills up his booth because people are hungry for freebies. More people with Walled off hotel souvenirs brings more awareness of the hotel and the artist. The press covers the booth and shows a bunch of people crowded around it. On and on.

It's a gimmick. Why is banksy stooping to a gimmick such as giving free stuff away when the Walled Off is much more then a gimmick. It cheapens what he's done with the hotel.
My concern with the Walled off was that it wouldn't last and it was a gimmick. So far that doesnt seem to be the case and I admitted that. But then why do a cheap stunt of announcing free stuff. It takes away for the meaning of the hotel. I don't get the play.
Sure in some cases... Dismaland... Smaller works the gimmick is classic banksy. But here I don't see how it fits without contradicting the importance.

I'm not staying not to give free stuff away. I'm saying why announce it on Instagram.
Personally if he announced he was going to be there and then true fans started posting they went to check it out and got posters as opposed to flippers going just to make money. I think that's better publicity no?

I was pretty clear on my comment from the beginning.
For how specific banksy is and has been in the wording of his art it bewilders me how so many on here just ignore it. It's quite shocking.
So like one of my first posts said why does the Instagram post including 'free giveaways'? What does it add to the art?
I've stated my opinion above I thought we were having a good discussion...

New BANKSY stall, by k2 on Nov 7, 2018 2:37:32 GMT 1, So like one of my first posts said why does the Instagram post including 'free giveaways'? What does it add to the art?
I guess it depends on your view of what ‘the art’ is, in this case.
If the intention of this stunt is to raise awareness of the hotel, or of Palestine as a destination, or of ‘the cause’ as a whole, then you would agree that getting as much attention (traditional media / social media / whatever) as possible would be the ultimate aim.
By announcing ‘free giveaways’ he/she/they can harness the inherent greed / collectibility / whatever that seems to accompany everything he/she/it touches (no offence intended to anyone who attended), pretty much guaranteeing a large attendance and associated coverage.
You made the point that if he didn’t announce free giveaways, but simply allowed news of their existence to be shared organically, he/she/it would have achieved the same effect. That may be true, but considering this is a two day event, you might concede that announcing the giveaways in advance would guarantee an immediate impact.
So if ‘the art’ in this case is causing a stir worthy of coverage, announcing ‘free stuff here come and queue up’ was surely the most obvious way of maximising its effect.
Or he just likes giving away pencils. Who knows...

New BANKSY stall, by tab1 on Nov 7, 2018 4:25:17 GMT 1, I'll ask again cause no one wanted to answer. Why did banksy feel the need to advertise free stuff? for publicity
If he just opened the stall without any prior heads up Not many at the event would know it was banksy or even have an interest , the pictures presented to the press would be pretty bare and no buzz around the event would be presented . As is , it has presented a busy scene , created hype to the general public and interest and will now draw a few more of the general public not previously aware or interested in banksy to look up the woh , which is the whole reason of the event . Without freebies many would not of made the effort to visit. Look at the metro press release as an example

New BANKSY stall, by coller on Nov 7, 2018 4:59:30 GMT 1, he just wants to draw more attention to palestine, and it's pretty clear that he already has the attention of his fans. this just helps spread the word more.
or maybe he just thought it'd be funny if the palestine stall had a really a long line compared to the stalls for "luxury destinations".
some people in this thread are overanalyzing this to the point of insanity.

New BANKSY stall, by d.r. perseus on Nov 7, 2018 5:48:03 GMT 1, No need. It's a gimmick. Why is banksy stooping to a gimmick such as giving free stuff away when the Walled Off is much more then a gimmick. It cheapens what he's done with the hotel. New BANKSY stall, by Deleted on Nov 7, 2018 7:21:00 GMT 1, In this image too the print is not centered on the page It's a free poster. It cost literally zero pounds. A Peckham Rock postcard is more expensive. I don't think we should expect the same perfect printing standards you'd want from a proper Banksy. They're probably off-centre because lots were quickly run through a printer.
Just be happy you got one. The one downloadable from his site is A4 sized, unless you want some loss of image quality. This one is twice the size with pin-sharp image. We got a limited edition Banksy poster for nothing. I'm delighted and couldn't care less about it being off-centre.

The a3 is 212 dpi A4 300
Here are two print ready cmyk pdfs. Both easy to print at any high street printers. The A3 res comes in at about 212, the A4 is 300 dpi. I'd say you could get away with the A3 and it would feel more like a poster at that size. The A4 will be better quality overall. we.tl/t-HrnhGZs1FQ
