New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 3, 2018 16:50:43 GMT 1, The thing that strikes me about this sort of argument is how seldom the person advancing it actually has an alternative suggestion about what the person they are criticizing should be doing instead of the thing they are doing. It's impossible for any of us to say yet whether or not Banksy's trade fair stall will accomplish any of the aims you list (which, I note, you've attributed to himโthey aren't the aims he's declared for himself) because none of us have seen the stall. But that hasn't stopped you declaring what he intends to achieve, declaring he hasn't achieved it, and declaring that he ought to be doing some other unspecified thing instead in pursuit of the aims you've ascribed to him. In essence you seem to be saying he ought to be doing nothing. And for no better reason than because that would make you happier. Seems to me that you're just using his trade stall as a handy stick to beat him with. What's the point of that? And what do you think he should be doing instead? I don't think you read my post correctly. I have not stated what Banksy should be doing or what he is intending to achieve here. I am trying to clarify exactly what the aim of this travel agency stunt could be. I put forward some potential answers which do not appear to stand up to scrutiny. So what other potential answers can you think of? And do they stay up to scrutiny? I have certainly not suggested he "ought to be doing nothing". One suggestion is that he produces a few one-off pieces and sell them at Sothebys for 1 million each. He could then give all the money to a Palestinian charity group. I'm sure that would do a lot more good than staying in his hotel. Palestinian charities get millions a year. Unfortunately Israel Palestine situation will never be resolved or change without compromise from both sides government. Hamas has stated they will never compromise and are far from democratic themselves.

New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 3, 2018 16:57:00 GMT 1, What is the hype ? If i didnt read this forum I wouldnt know about this particular stall. Dismaland,Walledoff, Bristol Museum etc werent hyped, they made national news as they were newsworthy in UK anyhow. Long way to go at significant expense to get trinkets to flip. Why does he feel the need to advertise 'free stuff'? That's easy.
As a travel or hotel trade fair, there are probably rules for exhibitors that they cannot turn their stand into a shop selling merchandise. Many of the stands give away free pens and publicity material branded with their company name. Banksy is just doing the same. Giving away publicity material.
It's London and a big international travel fair which will get lots of visitors. I'm sure Banksy is displaying the huge wall pieces to gain attention and be controversial and that is not a bad thing.

New BANKSY stall, by Pysgod on Nov 3, 2018 17:00:16 GMT 1, Why is it a problem ? who is the 'they' you speak of ? I for one wouldn't have heard about any of the causes had it not been for banksy highlighting it whether I believe in the cause or not and if I want to support it after banksy has gone home is up to me, But good on him I say You must be very young. The Palestine situation has been in the news for decades. Plus if people decide to google image search just the word "Palestine" or "Gaza" with the safe filter on or off. Rather than "Banksy Palestine" They will never forget the images. I was referring to other plights and causes, this has been going on all my life and I give as much fucks about Palestine now as I did when I was 17.... zero. I would like to visit the hotel though to have a look around pick up a few souvenirs spray a few sheep on the wall then gtfo.

Palestinian Christians are trapped in the middle of a religious war between both sides which is none of their doing.

That's not the question.
It's not why is he giving it away.

Very true, these folks are far more tolerant of each others beliefs than most. I was at the switching on of the xmas lights in Manger Square last December, a big christian celebration, vast majority of the large crowd were Muslim and it was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Off topic and really none of my businesses but I hope you are not planning on spending 15 days in Phnom Penh (if this is a pleasure trip and your first time to Cambodia).

Definitely not, a few days, check out the scene, get over my jet lag, head to Siem Reap then the southern water area and colonial towns before flying home from PP. It sounds like you've been, your comment appreciated - and is this not a travel agent thread?. Going with gf, she's been to Laos and Vietnam, I with ex Vietnam Thailand and South Korea.

I guess it is a travel agent thread I visited a few years back while on the SE Asia backpacker trail, itโs an diverse land and the people are some of the friendliest in the world, which surprised me considering how tough they had It up until only recently really . You will have a great time, 15 days is a decent amount of time to do it in too as , when I visited at least, there are only a handful of towns that were really suitable to stop at.

So I think it was the original sign hiding the stencil last year.

New BANKSY stall, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2018 17:32:06 GMT 1, Its not a protest, its mentioning the Nativity play at the walled off hotel and saying its free (something along those lines) So I think it was the original sign hiding the stencil last year. But why hide the stencil? ย They could have easily placed the sign beside the stencil rather than over the top of it.
The Banksy stencil was covered by cardboard and tape. The sign was placed over that to cover the cardboard. It came loose and you could see a little of the cherub, but was sorted by the walled off staff. The day before the play (during the evening) Wisam climbed a ladder and pulled it all down. This was filmed by a crew and seen by several residents of the hotel. In the morning, it was touched up a little by the staff as there was a small break between the crowbar and the connecting wooden part of the hook. A little touch of paint sorted it.

New BANKSY stall, by Chris JL on Nov 4, 2018 17:40:48 GMT 1, It's not a religious war, it's politics. Hense a mosque and the church of nativity surviving side by side in manger square with zero issues
Totally true. Peace was in the making and a two state solution was on the horizon. Then the ultra racist extreme right killed the prime minister, caused a new intifada, took over power, and has been working daily, and successfully, to make peace not viable and apartheid the only policy. Thatโs why the otherwise antisemite alt-right is more and more looking at Israelโs government as a political role model: they have been successful in doing what they too dream of doing. Let the new rights of Orban/Trump/Salvini etc shape our future, and todayโs Israel/Palestine will be the model for the occident/rest-of-the-world separation of tomorrow. Even the slogans are the same (โbuild that wallโ anybody?)
