Paco Pomet ๐ช๐ธ Granada, Spain โข New Paintings , by natstan on Nov 19, 2015 21:03:41 GMT 1, Wow.. what? I think considering his age he want to retire? I think he just killed his own hype. this print will not sell out for a long time.... Maybe never is my guess. The image chosen to release could also be better considering the market he is popular in now. (that is the urban/street at market) Maybe he did not consider that? We are a different animal aren't we ;-) Paco is fairly well established, we're the new audience with regards to his presence at Dismaland I think the print will sell out pretty swiftly but that's only a personal opinion, I certainly don't think he's killed his own hype, again that's a personal opinion...
How old are most of the folks hanging out on this forum? He's only all of 45 years old and probably still 'young' in an artist's career.

Paco Pomet ๐ช๐ธ Granada, Spain โข New Paintings , by Mirus Gallery Poesia on Nov 19, 2015 21:34:53 GMT 1, Its been explained to me before from reputable printers that it is a general rule of thumb if you dont know how to price an edition, or an artist is looking for a way to value an edition. I am sure every printer has their own way of doing things, although I use the formula though for myself as it makes sense. I've heard this before on a couple of occasions. It's my impression that's how prints have been priced historically. Today, I don't think it holds true. I think there's enough demand for prints to drive the overall price of the edition well over the price of the original. Take some of the recent FAILE prints for example. $500 for editions of 500 works out to $250k. To be fair, I haven't priced an original from them lately, but my gut tells me it's quite a bit less. I could be wrong. That said, this feels like a ยฃ250 print to me. The idea doesn't feel particularly fresh or original. Like I said it was a rule of thumb not a real exact way to price anything, considering costs to make the print etc. etc. I use it to gauge just out of wack something is or to try to get a gauge for value in something. I dont see many printers or artists using the formula in our genre due to how outrageous it has become and print editions and prices making no sense in most cases. I get why some artists try to offset flippers with high prices but I think inflating a price is the worse of ways to do this.
I still think its a great way to value an edition or come close to something that is reasonable, but artists will usually listen to those trying to make the most money instead of using an edition to further sales of originals. This edition could have been 1/3 of its size and been ok 150 just smells of cashing in without any regard for past prices and sustaining something authentic. Hype fades but bad decisions will stick with you, or the hype can be real in some circumstances. For 150 people buying in at this price point from his recent hype and association with Banksy is understandable I guess but you would think with new eyes on the artist and attention being drawn his way he would engage people to buy into his originals and maintain longterm collectors who will follow his path as an artist, instead he shoots for the fast money with an edition that is vastly overpriced. Many will still be bought by flippers or speculators thinking that there is no way but up, and many will pass thus slowing down his momentum.
I am sure the edition might sell out due to the fact that speculators, and uninformed buyers will reach and buy into the hype. Its natural, but for true collectors like many in here its easy to see through this and be patient, acquiring an original or waiting it out.

Paco Pomet ๐ช๐ธ Granada, Spain โข New Paintings , by tab1 on Nov 20, 2015 0:23:21 GMT 1, If no one buys this , the next release of the gas mask with kids around the rock pool will be cheaper ;-)
As only 4 prints released so far , not much to choose from if you want a piece by this artist. Edition of 80 would of been better suited at the price but with all the interest and emails they have received maybe helped them come to this figure , if the paco internacional was a low edition and priced way lower with over half available a year after release the demand must be there to be at these figures ?!
With many new shows planned next year , good to see comments from this thread In a years time ?!
print market is different to people who buy originals .
All galleries I've contacted have increased prices slightly on canvases since the show .

HC = Hors Commerce (Not for Trade) traditionally were the graphics pulled with the regular edition, but were marked by the artist for business use only. These graphics were used for entering exhibitions and competitions, but today, these graphics generally are allowed into distribution through regular channels.
BAT = Bon a Tirer - When the artist is satisfied with the graphic from the finished plate, he works with his printer to pull one perfect graphic and it is marked "Bon a Tirer," meaning "good to pull." The printer then compares each graphic in the edition with the BAT before submitting the graphic to the artist for approval and signature. There is typically one BAT which becomes the property of the printer or workshop printing the edition.
