Is Martin Whatson overpriced?, by Hairbland on Nov 19, 2018 9:07:53 GMT 1, ^ "A weaker artist"?.. don't know enough about things to make that judgement, However, I think Martin Whatson is the real deal.....He is certainly deeply routed in the streets... right?? I just bought what I think is one of his more interesting earlier works... it was fascinating how a few were released and popped up on his store amongst all the others?.. but sure.. it is what it is I guess. Not to bash on the artist, but he's made it pretty far for someone that cant draw. Kinda like Trump. He made it with a bit of cheating (aka photoshopping) but he doesn't have the qualities needed to be at the level of his peers Couldnโt agree more, he benefitted by studying the scene and approaching it in a calculated way. A bit of gallery hype and there you go. If his work was sold for twice maybe it would sit around. Lotteries and such are meant to maintain the illusion past its expiration date. It is to his benefit to be listed for twice on eBay, Iโm sure this point comes up in some โartistsโ marketing plans.

Is Martin Whatson overpriced?, by Daniel Silk on Nov 19, 2018 11:36:32 GMT 1, Martin Whatson has become predictable, commercial, and as a consequence his art is now overpriced and in my view it is suffering because of it..... Alas. (I'd still love one of his works, but I now don't know where to turn with this guy: I'm lost in all the "carry on" with lottery winnings and "special people" etc. ) Discuss. (No offence to the artist. This IMO and "it is what it is" I guess)... Overpriced? Do you mean his new work or the secondary market? I guess people will only pay what they are happy to fork out? Has his prices or values just got higher than your willing to pay? I mean thatโs a common thing in this scene such as Banksy prices going well beyond what most could justifiably spend on a piece of art.

Btw, NONE of the latest lottery prints seem to have made it to eBay. Looks like lotteries actually work in limiting flipping...

Your wrong on photoshop regardless of whether people like or not he is a very strong stencil artist. That was his roots rather than the street. He produced strong stencil pieces such as eternal reflection etc

Is Martin Whatson overpriced?, by jeeves on Nov 24, 2018 12:46:06 GMT 1, โBecome predictableโ - pretty much all he has ever done is the same โurbanโ graffiti scribble over different things, one idea and then afterwards no creativity whatsoever. Iโm amazed over and over again that so many people on a forum like this (ie not completely new to all this) buy his work. That smart phone print is one of the corniest things Iโve ever seen. So yes I think he is massively overpriced and just cannot imagine he possibly stands the test of time
