FOR SALE: BANKSY BARCODE U/S RED STAMP, by Sundowner on Nov 27, 2018 17:10:42 GMT 1, I’m pretty sure it’s the combination of the recycled paper stock and non acid-free mounts used that are the cause of this fading and not sunlight. I’ve seen lots of the early prints with this issue and I’m pretty sure they’ve not all been hung in direct sunlight with non-UV glass.

Even relatively mild indirect sunlight will do this over the long term.

FOR SALE: BANKSY BARCODE U/S RED STAMP, by artgrenade on Nov 27, 2018 18:02:55 GMT 1, Artrepublic sold me a GWB framed but put the mount about 3" over the top of the image. Once the mount was removed there was a distinct colour variation. If you take to a restorer they'll sort this out quite easily for around the £200 mark. They also framed a CND for me and drew a keyline on the mount which bled onto the print. On top of that they also wrecked a Get out of here Rat with bad framing. I went back to Artrepublic to seek compensation for the three restorations and after initially denying that they'd even framed them (stickers on the back/had receipts) was simply told 'ah we don't use that framer anymore.' and that was that. Needless to say, I've never returned to that shop.

The majority of framers are very very bad
On the bright side though, perhaps if art republic were not there you maybe wouldn't have purchased the banksys ?
Quite a nice return
Bring them a pot plant :-)

From one of the best frame stores in SF. UV coating is a thin layer on top of the glass that loses its effectiveness in time I was told

FOR SALE: BANKSY BARCODE U/S RED STAMP, by Deleted on Sept 13, 2019 18:52:38 GMT 1, Funny thing about sun damage is the whole centre/main section of the print is faded(paper not the ink), the section that's darker that was covered by the mount is non faded by uv. Float mounted prints are faded in the entirety of the paper rather than 97%, you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. Only in the Banksy market does this effect the perceivable value so much, long term it won't be the issue it is now.

FOR SALE: BANKSY BARCODE U/S RED STAMP, by sharpy on Sept 13, 2019 19:57:08 GMT 1, SOLD. The prints gone to a new home now....
Lots of different opinions as to how much it affects the price etc...I felt it did make difference, if nothing else it limits your framing options. However I loved having the print, and I'm sure the new owner does too!
