KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by Art! on Dec 2, 2018 20:10:40 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a KAWS - YSKIK print from a dealer in the USA. While the packaging was quite good (crated, bubble wrap, cardboard, wax paper, etc), the print has issues in two of the corners. It looks like someone has incorrectly handled the print in a way that the ink "cracked" in the corner. Overall, the print looks nice but thought I would ask everyones opinion of what to do. I paid pretty much market price (maybe slightly under), and the print was advertised as "mint". The dealer has been accommodating so far and offered a couple options. 1) send it to a restorer, 2) offer a partial refund, or 3) return it for a full refund. Leaning towards option 3, or possibly 2, but want to get other people's opinion.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by Express Post on Dec 2, 2018 20:13:16 GMT 1, Did you know about the damage before paying or was it mint before being shipped? How much is the discount?

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by That Print Guy on Dec 2, 2018 20:16:34 GMT 1, That's fairly significant damage when selling to another print collector right now. But ten years from now in an auction house I doubt it matters. (IMHO)

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by bjoern on Dec 2, 2018 20:20:08 GMT 1, Lot’s of PTP prints came with these flaws directly from Kaws. They had a couple of issues with packaging back in the days. They exchanged mine without any problems. I only want to say that there is a possibility that this arrived damaged already at your seller and he might didn’t checked the condition. Even though that’s not you fault and since that’s not a mint condition he should give you a refund.
Anyone thinks this can be repaired?

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by Moniker Projects on Dec 2, 2018 21:59:07 GMT 1, I'd suggest that they are fairly difficult to come by these days. If the dealer is offering to take it to a restorer, it might be worth seeing what could be done to fix the print.

Might see what repair options are available locally, but only want to do it if it'll be unnoticeable.

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by d.r. perseus on Dec 3, 2018 3:14:06 GMT 1, I would get restored via restorer of sellers choice, with them paying and a discount under the stipulation I want refund if I don’t like the restoration.

Do you think it is the seller's responsibility to pay for any shipping related costs no matter the choice?

Yes
They sold a product that was listed as such and it’s their job to either make it so (on their dime) or refund if they are unwilling , IMO.

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by Express Post on Dec 3, 2018 4:36:40 GMT 1, This is right.
Responsibility on the seller to have inspected the condition of the artwork and report accurately.
Put it on them to make good by upping the discount. Usually you cant restore flaked off silkscreen inks without having to touch up the area. Without knowing what paints were used during production, you could be introducing something foreign.

KAWS Print Damage - Opinions Needed, by artofbalt on Dec 5, 2018 0:16:07 GMT 1, My 2 cents? Get a full refund.
I had the same issue with my ptp. 2 corners just like you.
Got on the interwebs did some research made a few phone calls and sent some photos around for restoration.
No one wanted anything to do with it.
Finally found an expert that was highly recommended who agreed to meet after seeing photos.
Upon seeing it she immediately decided she did not want to take on the project.
She said the pigments he uses are very unique and very tough to match.
I ended up selling at a small loss as mine was not from a gallery.
Good luck whatever you decide to do. Sorry this happened,it really is a great print.
