Pejac - Love Letter, by tab1 on Dec 17, 2018 3:53:50 GMT 1, ... some thoughts ... ... ยฃ700/ยฃ800 I thought was a high price, but with 470 units sold that is quite a number ... ... with regards to flipabilty ... being a timed release ... all of those that wanted one, surely would have bought one? ... unless of course they 1) had a case of food poisoning and spent the day locked in the toilet with their focus on other things or 2) had been arrested and spent 24hrs in a police cell ... ... the secondary market, I would suggest is therefore fairly small ... at least in the short to medium term ...
As his prices in prints have risen so quickly A lot of people bought on hype of instant value over cost and comparing to prices of previous prints that have gained in value vastly over cost . Think some people took a gamble to offload later at a profit, what helped so much in sales was that it was a blind release I doubt if the edition was shown at the start all would have sold straight away Still expensive for what it is

Pejac - Love Letter, by gd79 on Dec 17, 2018 10:26:25 GMT 1, I presume if anyone feels stung they can just return it. You can always return anything shipped from the EU on receipt, for any reason. You have to wear the shipping costs though
This is a slightly grey area, as this law does not apply to bespoke items, but it does apply to items made to order to a standard specification (which is surely what this is)

Perfectly fair dealing in my view. It's very difficult to get a true sense of how a print looks based on a monitor display. The risk should lie with the seller, not the consumer. They are in the business after all, and get the benefit of minimal bricks and mortar costs by selling remotely.
I have used it once or twice when an image that looked great on the screen has been weak in person. That's my right.
I doubt anyone uses it to jump on every new release with the safety net of returning it if they can't sell it on. The round trip shipping costs are typically too high. It's better than being stuck with something you don't like, but it's hardly a viable business model for the scattergun flipper.

In the first post it seems that you suggest feeling stung due to the edition number is a fair reason to return the item. Which I think it isnโt. Thats the risk of a open edition.

Sure. Agree. However you don't need a valid reason. You don't have to provide any reason. How people use the law is their business.

You can always * return anything shipped from the EU on receipt, for any reason. You have to wear the shipping costs though * Just a small note on this adverb: this consumer right has an exception on products that it's prices are dependent on fluctuations in the financial market, like precious metals; so if the piece is made of gold or silver, you can not just return it. Still valid for most of the art traded in this forum.

its edition of close to 500 and price of original was close to ยฃ5000
Making the edition of 500 worth aprox 20ยฃ each before shipping and taxes.
I might have done the calculation wrong. But based this on recent retail price of editions of 100 by Kaws in relation to his originals.

Thatโs an โoriginalโ calculation ๐ (eg try applying it to Banksyโs GWB...)
But quite interesting nevertheless: it suggests that Kaws has saturated his market with his โmerchandisingโ

But the art world never works like that. It's primarily down to supply and demand.
Incidentally, 5,000 divided by 500 is obviously not 20. Even I don't need a calculator for that one.
