Pejac - Love Letter, by slevin on Feb 9, 2019 20:20:53 GMT 1, Mine was fine but the condition of the outer box doesnโt really matter does it? As long as whatโs inside is good. The box itself is โwhatโs insideโ along with its contents. The reverse side of the lid is a stencil sprayed by Pejac. They used a single layer of thin bubble wrap that couldโve been punctured rather easily. I would have been livid if mine arrived damaged. The fact that the box itself is numbered out of /470 with the stencil on the lid kind of implies it's a part of the overall art work.

She wants it for her birthday, but I guess I can just give her mine. And pick up one for cost later

Pejac - Love Letter, by maven on Feb 10, 2019 17:49:21 GMT 1, I decided against this timed release by Pejac - I was seduced by the concept and the making of the "Love Letter" on YouTube, but I couldn't quite see how I would ever frame it? Looking forward to seeing pictures of them framed up.

Pejac - Love Letter, by nughound on Feb 11, 2019 19:21:21 GMT 1, Picked my up from FedEx this am. Bubble Wrap Fail. See pics attached. I promptly emailed Max about it and figured I would share his quick and curt response for those members with similar issues.
Thanks for the email. Iโm glad to hear your Love Letter has safely arrived.
Iโm sorry that you are disappointed on the box damage but you need to understand that, in certain degree, this is expected to happen during artwork transit. The very box is meant to protect the artwork inside, itโs not part of the artwork. The bubblewrap layer was a very last moment addition because we (as you) found the whole packing to be very good looking and we wanted to give it something to do at least some packing protection. We hope you can understand that we can not replace your wooden box because of this.
Wishing you all the best and thanks again for your kind support, Max

With respect, that reply doesnโt sound curt at all. Quite the opposite in fact.
The issue, it seems to me, is whether the box should have arrived undamaged. Yes, if itโs part if the artwork. No, if itโs packaging.
You will have to draw your own opinion regarding that. I think mine would be that Iโd be happy provided that the letter and the stencilled lid arrived undamaged, as they are the parts that Iโd wish to display. I appreciate that you may feel differently.

I totally agree with Coach here.
For example I've bought a canvas from Kunstrasen and he added a little stencil work on the outside of the packaging. It had a little scratch on it... otherwise I could have cut it out and put it inside a frame or something. But as this was part of the packaging and not of the artwork, similar as it was with your love letter, I was a bit unlucky and enjoyed the art inside the package "only". I mean at least you don't have any damage on the stenciled birds, right?

We can agree to disagree on if Max's response is rudely brief and/or dismissive.
But as to your second point, I would agree that it in most cases the packaging is just a vehicle for delivering the artwork. However in this instance, the packaging is not only hand stamped/sealed but each one is also hand numbered and stenciled on the interior cover. Thus making it a bit more than a simple crate. I realize that the COA only references the envelope as the artwork, but you like many others on here, we would like to try to incorporate the packaging into the overall display of the artwork.
And since I wanted to use the box as part of the framing, The banged up corner completely ruins any plan for that. I hate that Pejac put so much effort into making all the elements of this piece fit together so nicely, only to have the couriers damage it with no way to correct it.
Just my .02

In these circumstances I can empathise with you feeling disappointed. I do think framing the cladding as a separate piece will look smashing. I hope you will come to enjoy the piece. It is a lovely thing. Indeed, we will have to beg to differ regarding Maxโs email. I thought it very polite.

Looks like a fair and reasoned response to me. I dont see any necessity to stir up malice. The box is for protection and has served its purpose admirably

Wishing you all the best and thanks again for your kind support, Max Looks like a fair and reasoned response to me. I dont see any necessity to stir up malice. The box is for protection and has served its purpose admirably

I take it the birds are on the inside of the lid so it won't matter if you replace the side

Pejac - Love Letter, by touchdowntodd on Feb 11, 2019 22:32:23 GMT 1, I can't believe anyone defends this...
Clearly the box was used to market and push purchases. This isn't a cheap outter throw away box, they KNOW everyone intended to keep it, and most display it
Classless and careless.. for literally $1 more it could've been in a cardboard outter box as protection...
Even a $5 sticker from most artists are given that respect...
Rediculous

Pejac - Love Letter, by Wrinkled Brain on Feb 11, 2019 22:43:05 GMT 1, Given that the stencil was placed on the cladding, I would be inclined to write off any damage as being a part of the box's terroir. Hard to fault them for any damage to that. I had thought the stencilled birds were painted on the inside of the lid. Iโm not sure where I got that misapprehension from. Thank you for the correction. Providing the cladding with the painted birds and the letter are undamaged, my opinion remains the same. You were not misinformed, the stenciled birds were painted on the inside of the lid as I mentioned in a previous post.

And is this the side that Pejac (or company) hand numbered? Seems the box could be viewed as part of the artwork as it is numbered as well and beautiful.

Pejac put so much effort in this artwork and the packaging was a joke. I got the exact same answer from Max.Actually I consider it to be part of the artwork. Some agree and some don't.

Pejac - Love Letter, by Yabadabdo on Feb 11, 2019 23:38:56 GMT 1, Simples, those who say the outer box is nothing but packaging, do the nice thing and offer yours to those whose boxes get damaged and wanted them in great condition...

Pejac - Love Letter, by 19818914 on Feb 11, 2019 23:58:28 GMT 1, Pretty straight forward framing on mine. I like the side with stamp and signature more ,so that will be face forward-framed with walnut and uv plexi. The lid will also be framed with walnut and uv plexi, seperately.

Pejac - Love Letter, by thisisit on Feb 12, 2019 0:15:13 GMT 1, maybe they produced so many (470), they decided only if some get destroyed, this edition will ever increase in value. At the end of the day, seems like pejac, pejac management, and pejac fans only care about that.
If i got a damaged one, i would cry and want my money back.
I have received less expensive open editions with more bubble wrap than what I see there.
Also the response is poor! It even acknowledges that the box is of value...
