Archival framer charleston or charlotte nc, by jbelleit on Dec 5, 2018 7:04:34 GMT 1, I actually use Frame Warehouse tho. They do a great job for a fantastic price with good options on glass/plastic. They know my style and quick to boot.

Archival framer charleston or charlotte nc, by jbelleit on Dec 5, 2018 23:23:32 GMT 1, Not sure about either...I'd give them a ring. While people may knock Frame Warehouse, I have been going to them for a couple of years. They have staff that has been doing this for a long time. Ask for Isaac.
But that's not to say that Harris Holt doesn't do a good job, but never gone there b/c of their prices.
And if you are looking for restoration, I think the best in CLT is a woman named Peppi White.

Archival framer charleston or charlotte nc, by cest on Dec 17, 2018 4:20:51 GMT 1, So I decided to go with Dilworth Custom Framing in Charlotte. My first piece I'm going to get framed with them (is kind of a test to see how thing some out) but mostly two understand the manager Chris's methodology and treatment of the art in framing.
So the first thing I dropped off is a signed poster. I asked him some general questions at the store and after I had time to think about our conversation, I asked him some deeper questions over email. I'm kind of excited with his response because it was truly detailed and I sent an email on a Sunday night and he responded almost immediately. The question I had were around what he was going to use to mount the poster. Assuming that this response sounds good to y'all and the framing comes back visually appealing, I'm going to go ahead and trust him with other more expensive works and stop prying into the "hows". Here is his response:
Thanks for trusting this piece with me and reaching out for clarification. I've actually been thinking about the hinging process after re-examining the paper upon which it is printed. Coated 2-side stock at this weight is not suitable for the mulberry paper and rice starch approach. I fear surface distortion, even at the lowest % starch/water saturation for adhesion.
I'm actually going to use a pressure-sensitive mulberry hinging tape to perform the t-hinges. The solvent is mineral spirits, which (for this medium) is highly advisable over water. Your piece will have 3 t-hinges that will be secured overnight with 3 60g leather weights. Only 1/8" of adhesive will make artwork contact. The mounting board is 8-ply cotton rag.

Archival framer charleston or charlotte nc, by jbelleit on Dec 17, 2018 16:55:06 GMT 1, Good luck with this!!!
Will the adhesive make any lasting marks or distort the poster in any long term ways? (sorry...just curious about framing techniques I have never used/thought of...)
