Hirst on auction - authentic?, by Poster Bob on Dec 20, 2018 3:18:15 GMT 1, Interesting strategy. You want to win an auction but then advertise it to give yourself more competition.

Hirst on auction - authentic?, by nik2000 on Dec 20, 2018 4:19:26 GMT 1, considering I have 0 experience, I would rather pay more for something real than risk getting a fake. get your point though.

Hirst on auction - authentic?, by met on Dec 20, 2018 4:50:29 GMT 1, Hi, I'm not 100% sure if this is the right place to post, or if it is allowed (admins please delete if so), but I spotted this Hirst print on ebay, and was interested as to whether it is likely to be authentic? or if anyone can lend their thoughts either way. As I was considering on bidding on it. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Damien-Hirst-Liberty-Series-In-A-Spin-Volume-1-Etch-2002/302994994036Once again, I'm sorry if this thread was inappropriate for this forum Thanks.
Nothing about the eBay listing looks suspicious to me:
(i) the photos are okay; (ii) the dimensions seem fine; (iii) the provenance story sounds plausible (or at least not implausible); (iv) both the handwriting and signature certainly look like Hirst's; and (v) Darbyshire would not be the go-to framer for fraudsters.
Besides that, no fraudster in their right mind would bother faking prints from this series. For the effort required, it wouldn't be worth their while โ because the demand for these spin etchings is insufficient.
__________
Does anyone here know who "Ant" might be? [Perhaps Antony Genn from the band The Hours?]
If you're considering placing a bid, bear in mind that the regular edition of 68 is from a portfolio set โ In a Spin, the Action of the World on Things I โ which included 23 etchings in a box, with an original spin painting on the cover:
www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/hirst-liberty-p13045
paragonpress.co.uk/works/in-a-spin-the-action-of-the-world-on-things-volume-i
NB: See the article below as well, published on Phaidon's website around 2012. Should you win the auction and wish to resell at some point in the future, there's a good chance that reputable / high-profile auction houses would refuse to accept the piece on consignment:

Hirst on auction - authentic?, by lg2771 on Dec 20, 2018 4:54:26 GMT 1, Definitely real. No one would go through that level of framing on a fake. Also, the signature looks real. Iโd delete this if you want to win though!
