Framing a large Harland Miller, by sptembergurl on Jan 22, 2019 7:46:08 GMT 1, Hi, I was just recently gifted the large version of Harland Miller’s ‘i’ll Never forget what I can’t remember’. It is arriving in a couple of days and I want to get it framed ASAP but have no experience with pieces at this price level. I have a professional gallery that I use in town, but I don’t know what I should be doing with it to make sure it remains in pristine condition or what I should tell them if I take it there. Obviously I know to use museum glass but what else should I say to them or look to purchase in a frame to maintain its value? Many thanks and I apologize for my ignorance:)

They won't frame anything that large in glass.
Don't take it to a gallery, they will just take it to a framer and upcharge you.
HM standard framing is white and typically floated. If you matte it will cover the details on the edge of the print.
If you're serious ask around for a reputable framer. If you're really serious then you will frame it with Optium UV plexi. If its the larger print you're looking at 2k usd minimim to frame it in Optium.

If you email the guys at www.darbyshire.uk.com/
they will quote and give you the spec.
They know all about Miller stuff and are the go to for Whitecube gallery
You're doing the right thing by asking. The other thing I would do now knowing what I do from some pretty expensive mishaps from bad framing (even though I paid top money) is find a paper conservator and ask them for recommendations as they will know the good from bad from having to repair the damage done by these so called 'professional' framers.
Good luck
This is the spec i got
Moulding: A42 (22 x 48) Sapelle Wood Stain: Ash Black Finish: Hand Wax Fillet: 20mm 401 Glass: 3mm VA UV grade perspex (2030/3050) Hanger: 12mm Birch ply sub + Meridian Mount: Heritage white 1650 micron (1220/1635) Method: Float Mounted Dimensions: 1390 x 1002 mm

Framing a large Harland Miller, by sircoxson on Jan 22, 2019 9:26:55 GMT 1, I asked manifold for their recommended framing specs for a miller print, this is what I got. I changed to wooden frame btw, turned out very nice.
"We normally frame these prints in either a white wooden or white aluminium frame. The spec for white aluminium is as follows, which can easily be changed to white wood if you prefer:
Float forward on 5mm foam core on 1650 white heritage board Profile ½" face x 2 ½" side aluminium 18mm spacer to suit board Paperwhite solid spray 25mm crossbar backing frame 3mm UV perspex and 4mm backing.
We normally use Japanese hinges for attaching the back of the print to the backboard of the frame, which are considered conservation-standard.
I would certainly recommend UV-protected glazing. We normally use plexiglass, which is more expensive but lighter weight, and if the print ever comes away from the wall, the plexi won’t smash and damage the print. The best museum-grade plexiglass is a product called Optium, which is expensive but it is anti-glare and UV protected. "

Framing a large Harland Miller, by firstimer on Jan 22, 2019 9:48:08 GMT 1, I hope this helps you and anyone else. Harlands studio sent me this when I purchased my first piece and asked them for this exact advice. This was sent to me in May of 2015. I just got it from my inbox folder for you - apologies if it is outdated.

Used darbyshire for my HM Armageddon. Floated white frame. Definitely worth it.

Framing a large Harland Miller, by campfire headphase on Jan 22, 2019 16:09:36 GMT 1, Problem is i’m In New York. Any leads for this area? I own two of these. One framed, the other in a flat file. Personally, I'd never put tape on these. I pressure mount with acid free mat. That way, no adhesive touches it. Gifted one? thats a 24k gift. How'd you manage that? You'll also want plexiglass. Glass at that size is too heavy and fragile.
