Baroque Portfolios, by met on Feb 13, 2019 18:43:07 GMT 1, Wow. Thanks to both of you!!! Also, the prints have been stored ranging from 2-8 months
Two to eight months isn't too bad. You may find that the unrolling, flattening and insertion into sleeves can be done slightly faster than the timeframe I mentioned earlier. But I repeat again for the avoidance of doubt: Patience is key.
There are plenty of examples far worse than your own. Cases where prints have been left 5+ years in tubes. And overly-narrow ones at that. A diameter less than a 10cm / 4" is too narrow in my view. It also results in higher rates of unintended creasing during the initial rolling โ because of the need for a tighter roll.
I make efforts to avoid using tubes altogether, since I'm obsessive about condition. Anything that changes the original state of a print (including its shape) is a no-no for me and becomes a potential condition issue. When forced to use a tube for want of practicable alternatives, I go for 12cm, 15cm, or 20cm-diameter options. If a work on paper must be rolled, then the looser, the better.
__________
A print typically dries out in a cardboard tube. You can actually feel the difference in your hands. The paper turns more rigid and brittle (presumably, the same thing happens to the inks). And this increased brittleness can lead to damage if a cack-handed attempt is made to flatten the work too quickly. Look at it as if it were a desiccated leaf or sponge.
Removing the print from its tube allows the paper fibres to absorb moisture from the air and soften up a tad, regaining some of their original suppleness. This is what you want to happen before trying to flatten your art.
__________
When (again, very gradually) unrolling a print bit by bit, just imagine you're a surgeon.
Carefully see how much resistance you're encountering from the paper. This will be your best guide. You'll get a sense of where the next "break point" is. In other words:
(i) how much of the partial unrolling can be safely done without risking a fuck-up; and
(ii) at what point it's best to pause the process โ to give the paper time to recover, before you continue (perhaps the following day) with your slow-and-steady unrolling by increment.

No, that added cautionary measure is unnecessary in my case. The water only serves to humidify the chamber; it is never in direct contact with the paper. So I just use regular water, direct from the tap or from a water filter jug.
__________
In case it's of interest, my DIY humidification chamber consists of the following:
1. A large, clear plastic storage box with lid โ large enough to insert the rolled-up print without the paper touching any side of the box.
2. 5โ10mm of water at the base of the large box.
3. A smaller, clear plastic storage box, placed in the water inside the large box.
The rolled print will rest on top of the small box, safely above the water at the base of the large box.
There needs to be sufficient space between (a) the top of the small box and (b) the large box lid. This is to accommodate the print, but also to ensure the print will not (if it starts to unroll as it absorbs moisture) touch the large box lid from underneath (where condensation may have built up).
4. A couple of small and sufficiently heavy items placed on top of the small box, on either side of the rolled print โ to keep it centred within the chamber.
As the print absorbs moisture and loosens up, it might start to move around and partially unroll itself. The idea is to restrict this potential movement, to prevent the print from rolling off the small box or from touching the sides of the large box (where condensation may have built up).

Baroque Portfolios, by juni0209 on Feb 14, 2019 6:00:58 GMT 1, On the website its mentioned that the sleeves are 0,5 inches larger then the size stated. Does a 70x100cm print fits in the 27,5x41,5inch sleeves? 27,5inch = 69,85cm. So i'm hoping for a bit more margin WILLYBKLN Do you know if the portfolio will fit a 70x100cm print?

Baroque Portfolios, by rinz on Jan 7, 2023 16:44:36 GMT 1, Hey. Have had plenty of messages, most people asking about shipping and number of sleeves.
There is 20 sleeves in it. And that's enough for 40 prints. Shipping to UK is about 35 gbp.

Baroque Portfolios, by Spent all my Money on Art on Jan 9, 2023 18:43:36 GMT 1, I own one of these and once the binder is full the inserts do not line up right I would only suggest using 10 pages to avoid creasing the works. And the rings for the bider are rather weak.
Just be careful

Baroque Portfolios, by tasmannelson on Jan 10, 2023 8:30:39 GMT 1, I have the larger movie size. I think this brand is very good. I have owned it for a couple of years. I keep the portfolio in the box it was sent. It is kept flat under the bed. I check regularly throughout the year for damp and mould and have had no issues. I do not recommend this but I have limited space and for long term storage on a budget it has been fantastic.

If a print is much smaller than the maximum size, did you notice any issues?
