Tasso artist?, by pdjones512 on Feb 22, 2019 9:37:26 GMT 1, Not sure which thread to post this under so mods please move it if theres a better place....
Anybody ever had dealings with an artist by the name tasso? I'm really dumbfounded frankly, saw his work in a book and liked it so I looked him up and sent the following email:
hi, i just recently discovered your work, i'm an avid collector from Texas and wanted to inquire about the availability of any original works paintings or drawings etc. please let me know what you may have available or currently working on that may be available soon. thank you! looking forward to hearing from you soon
I (swiftly) got this reply (translated below):
Hey Patrick, das klingt nach einem typischen Fake!. Du sprichst mich nicht mit Namen an, benennt keines meiner Bilder direkt... Da musst du dir schon etwas mehr Mühe geben Atze! Ich werde deine Mail auf Facebook veröffentlichen, damit so viele Kollegen wie möglich gewarnt werden und solchem Scheiß nicht auf den Leim gehen! Fuck you! El Kitsch TASSO
Translation:

I'll post your mail on Facebook so as many people as possible will be warned and not go to shit like that! Fuck you! El Kitsch TASSO

Tasso artist?, by pdjones512 on Feb 22, 2019 9:39:05 GMT 1, ....uhhhh, perhaps some of the German members here can assist me. Did I phrase my email in some way that was unintentionally rude? Did I say a phrase that translates to "fuck your mother" in German without knowing it? Or is this guy just a miserable asshole? I'm really curious how I pissed him off that badly? Any thoughts?

Tasso artist?, by beicoblack on Feb 22, 2019 9:58:55 GMT 1, hmmm... this is a bit weird indeed. I have the feeling that he thinks you could be someone who wants to play him... Maybe police (which makes no sense since you can see his face all over youtube and I think he is doing legal stuff only nowadays) or any kind of hater or rival? But that's just an idea.
edit: but you did nothing wrong.

Tasso artist?, by pdjones512 on Feb 22, 2019 10:35:59 GMT 1, Granted. My email did read somewhat generic....but if you've got a website and a contact form or email listed....SURELY you've seen all manner of emails from the long and detailed to the ultra short "hey, want to buy painting". Certainly I cant be the first brief email hes received in his life. I mean seriously is it his first week on the internet?

Tasso artist?, by Nick on Feb 22, 2019 10:54:22 GMT 1, Your message was totally normal, his reaction is odd. That would put me off from buying anything ever, and i'd send him an even shorter message as a response:
Lutsch meinen Schwanz Tasso

Tasso artist?, by Eric Pause on Feb 22, 2019 15:04:04 GMT 1, I think I can explain.
There is a fairly common scam that targets artists via email. I've got several of them over the past few years. The "buyer" usually gives a budget of $5k, saying that he wants to buy one of your paintings as a gift for his wife. He never mentions which painting, your name, or anything else specific to your work. He then explains he can only pay by certified check or money order, and that you use his shipping broker to send the painting. He overpays via the check, and asks you to send the balance to his shipping broker. The ideas is: You send the art, pay for shipping, and the check bounces.
The emails usually sound like this, with the names and locations varying:
"HELLO i'm John Owen from North Carolina, I actually observed my wife has been viewing your site on my laptop, shes an art lover and i can see she has interest in your art piece.well I was also amazed after seeing your various works too. I would love to receive further information about your piece of work available for sale.Am interested in purchasing a piece to surprise her. So kindly confirm the availability for immediate sales. Thanks and my best regards. John"
Since these scam emails are fairly common, and a lot of working artists are familiar with them, my guess would be that Tasso has mistaken your email for one of these. As it kind-of looks like one. The exchange looks like a pretty funny misunderstanding to me.

Tasso artist?, by streetartger on Feb 22, 2019 15:08:29 GMT 1, I agree with Eric. Think this is a misunderstanding - but a funny one. I think if you contact him and explain he might even be a bit embarrassed by the way, we Germans are the most funny people on earth... do you know this joke?
How many Germans does it take to change a light bulb? - ONE! We are NOT funny but VERY efficient.

I know what you mean. As a buyer it's your choice. There is always Smug1 who makes great art.

That makes a little more sense, but I mean I get those scam emails when I sell anything from a chair to a car on craigslist. It seems like he should have the intelligence or at least the patience to wait out and see if I'm a legit buyer or trying to pull a check scam. Not to mention the fact....why even bother telling a scammer to fuck off? It's like pissing into the wind, you get nothing accomplished and all you end up is wet
