For those that follow art of any sort, criticism is part of the discussion. A comment like “f*ck the haters” generally speaks to those that have no knowledge of what they are complaining about, which doesn’t apply to those offering up criticism in this thread. It shuts down the discussion, is a bit juvenile, and at this point is a cliche. Not sure of the WofOz comparison with regards to your point of view.

As of 23 hours ago all the preorders for the main edition had not been allocated. Can’t hurt to email them and try. Otherwise I’d have to imagine they go quick, but not impossible to buy.

Personally I have no doubt about what he says regarding the Dran painting to which this bears some resemblance. It is clearly always possible for an artist to produce work similar to that of another without knowing.
I have no problem with the artist producing a variant to the previous spot removal. Of course an artist is going to produce work that he thinks will be successful, especially if that artist relies on sales to earn a living.
Finally, in my opinion, your comment about Rothco is utterly ludicrous; a superb painter.

Personally I think an artist should make work (s)he needs to make, wether it will sell or not.
Already too many Darth Vader Mickey Mouse Marilyn Monroe fusion crap going on.
And they do sell. Not sure they are made by "artists" though.

I feel that Sean Sculley achieved what Rothko was going for but despite the huge financial backing from the CIA and hype from influential friends. Rothko is quite underwhelming. |
