And it appears most items are going for more than the max estimate...sheesh...

I am quite happy with that result as I finally got my first CB's print this year from Maddox. And it appears most items are going for more than the max estimate...sheesh... A nice Connor Brothers, that. They're total one trick ponies - anything they do outside their pulp novel covers is usually crap - but when they find the right image they look great. Not deep or clever, but fun. Their images are much better when they've used the original book cover blown up, like they have here. More recently they seem to paint (or get someone else to paint) a copy of the original book images (e.g. this one: maddoxgallery.com/artwork/the-connor-brothers/commission-3/) and they look bloody awful. Not sure of their reasons for doing it.
I've sold most of my collection to buy things I like more, but have kept a big, framed 'If You've Got A Skeleton In Your Closet...' It's by far my favourite work of theirs but seems to be one of the least valuable.

Pejac - Rayuela, by bradk on Apr 11, 2019 18:35:19 GMT 1, Having seen this piece in london on the opening night and having a good understanding of the concept behind Migrate art and what the artists are given as a briefing - I actually think this is and was a really clever work by PEJAC full of meaning and thought provoking about the children in the refugee camp and the game of chance that life is that we all play.
As with most art, if you are just looking at it and thinking "its hopscotch" then yes you will undervalue the image and the work as a whole - the placement of the stone in the work was a really nice clever touch too in my opinion

maddoxgallery.com/news/the-connor-brothers-release-limited-edition-print/
But I think a lot of artists are one-trick ponies..but like my stocks, I diversify in art too. This is my first Connor Brothers and stoked to have gotten it from source to keep the cost down.
And while i didn't know the Closet print is one of the more least valuable, I too like it among their best.

And while i didn't know the Closet print is one of the more least valuable, I too like it among their best. Wasn't any criticism of your choice meant in my comment. Didn't intend to crap on your excitement about your purchase. And I like that one!
I enjoy their pulp work, I just don't necessarily respect them as artists or think they have any further to go. Anything they've tried outside the book covers hasn't been good. But like you say, lots of artists find a thing that's successful and run with it. I'll never understand why Kaws is worth a fortune, for example, nor Stik (just my taste; I'm not saying they're bad). Mark Drew has one trick so far, and I really like it.
I wouldn't stump up for a big original by them (if I had the cash) because I think they're print artists, not painters. But their prints are fun. My Skeleton is one of my favourite things I own. Past sales prices suggest it is one of their least valuable, but I didn't pay loads for it and I don't think I'll ever sell, so no matter.
The thing I do respect a lot about them is that they do a lot for charity. Their huge prints for Calm that they did for, I think, The Affordable Art Fair last year looked great and raised a lot of money.
