While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a throw away piece, I do agree that this was an opportunity to really showcase what Pejac can do, especially on the pressed wood media. Very curious to see where this one hammers......hopefully right into my collection

It just felt like since he was donating it to charity he didn't put in his strongest work that's all. Good luck with the bidding - hope you can snag it!

I had the same thoughts as you with respect to it being for charity and perhaps not receiving days upon days of the artists' attention. Thanks for the kind words! Will be keeping an eye on this one for sure

Can we agree that forums were not created for the express purpose of having positive conversations about things, but rather all kinds of conversations? People are allowed to form their own opinions about a work of art, that's the whole point.

Back on topic, i do agree it’s a uninteresting piece - was excited for his first painting to hit auction but that one is not gonna get my bids

Call Posterbob what you’d like, but his assessment of this piece of art(?) is pretty spot on.

Pejac - Rayuela, by irl1 on Mar 28, 2019 21:55:48 GMT 1, There’s quite a few charity pieces of his coming up. The management and Pejac could have said “too busy, working on a show for nyc” “sorry, we generally support other charities” which many artists do. If they had put in a really detailed amazing piece can you imagine the comments on here? Damned either way. Fair play to all of the artists that contributed to this auction and any other charity. Agree 100%. Great post.

I see your point and it's obviously a great gesture to support charity. I suppose I was just looking at it from a different perspective, by providing a more desirable piece you would a) receive a more positive response and b) sell for a higher price/raise more money for said charity. It's his (if I'm not mistaken) first major auction appearance and thus an opportunity to appeal to a larger audience. Win win.

Personally I don't like it. That's ok though isn't it. Mate, it’s fine not to like something. Tbh 90% of the stuff on here I don’t like. My point about them putting a less detailed piece in was.... on here there is lots of talk about manipulation and control of artists and their market, I guarantee that some would have said “nice way of boosting your hype - putting an amazing piece in an auction and then increasing the price on his work etc etc blah blah blah”. They can’t win. They’ll have nice respectful comments and discussions, then the usual bull and short vitriolic pointless comments that bring nothing.
I totally get it...I just live in a bubble of my own making where people are genuine, proper artists are held in high regard and Money is not important or relevant....mad innit!!?

But on the topic of "less detailled" : this is not just some white paint on a piece of wood board. He basicly had to shade every chip of wood in this board to get those detailed pieces of wood to pop out and appear like the earth is cracking open.
Which goes rather well with the theme of the charity of Migrate Art. So it is indeed a very well thought over piece to put in this auction. I'm pretty sure he made it especially for this auction.
And putting in a "better" piece to gain attention would have the same member b!tch about that. Calling this a "throw away piece" is simply embarrasing. If you would win this piece in a giveaway you would be all over social media proud as a dog with 5 d!cks.
Pejac donated one of his works to a fine charity. Great guy. Well done, Pejac. Bid on it if you like it. Don't if you do not. Any other comment is just disrepectful.

People are allowed to have an opinion on art, otherwise why have a forum about art? But of course, having an opinion comes with a responsibility to reasonably convey why you have it.

I share your feeling and description of the work. I like it and would be quite happy to see it in flesh.
Like others have said, everyone can put their opinions, with their choices of words. So let’s appreciate everyone’s contribution and not be heated whenever we disagree on the wording.

Pejac - Rayuela, by elberto77 on Mar 29, 2019 8:44:35 GMT 1, I like the more detailed pictures on his instagram. The figure inside the little shelter under number 7 sums up the refugee situation very nicely i find. No more time for the luxury of fun and games that childhood should be all about, make a roof with whatever is at hand and try to survive. I really like it and find it true to Pejac’s poetic, nostalgic style

Initially when I saw this in the first post , I was a bit underwhelmed but if you view it and zoom on the Phillips page, you can see that a lot more work has gone into it than I initially thought.
I bet it looks fantastic in the flesh

Pejac - Rayuela, by lv90210 on Mar 29, 2019 13:28:38 GMT 1, Mate, it’s fine not to like something. Isn’t it the game now biggie hype hype hype, then sell sell sell? Weren’t you offloading a bunch off the radar recently? what does off loading mean ? is it one or two words ?
missed school you cee ........

They can’t win. They’ll have nice respectful comments and discussions, then the usual bull and short vitriolic pointless comments that bring nothing. Indeed. This forum..... Sorry if you feel my comment is embarrassing. I never come on here with the intent to troll, be negative or offend so please allow me to clarify. We have always used the term "throw away" in the creative industry not to say "its a piece of garbage put it in the trash" but as to say "it doesn't meet the regular standards that's expected" imo. A photograph, while still being great may not make the portfolio - its a 'throw away'. A clip in a movie might not make the directors cut - its a 'throw away'. This painting won't make it into his NYC show - it's a 'throw away'. It's not meant to be as negative as Im sure it could be interpreted as.
For the record, if I won this piece in a giveaway I would not be as 'proud as a dog with 5 dicks'. I have never shared a single piece of art on social media nor would I hang it on my walls as I simply don't like it. I'm able to separate the name of an artist from my own personal taste in art. I say that as a fan, supporter and collector of his work.
