Kaws BFF Plush, by nobokov on Dec 1, 2016 15:38:00 GMT 1, I keep missing these new updates for sale before it sells out. If someone could message me when it happens so I can snag one, I would be very grateful. Please message me if you get instant updates and I can message you my number. Thanks in advance! A good app for this forum is Tapatalk. You can subscribe to specific threads and receive notifications anytime it's updates.
The downside is that it'll kill your battery life with the constant discussion on whether these dolls will be flippable in the future.

The last two real sale updates--I finally saw on the board as people were saying "all sold out now!" :/

Kaws BFF Plush, by txjaxx on Dec 2, 2016 4:48:30 GMT 1, Ha! Making something accessible for everyone! I think Mr Kaws might have lost touch that $200 is still a decent wedge for most normal people. I'd imagine these are produced and shipped from Asia for under $10.
Exactly! I attended the lecture and had mixed feelings. First off the exhibit itself is great. He was nice and basically presented a slideshow that was chronological about his career. There were some amusing anecdotes, but he gave very little insight into his inspirations, themes, or ART. It felt superficial. There was some very low-key name dropping, of celebrities, artists, and institutions, but I think there should be some meat to connect all those names to him as a person and artist. Re: the figures, at first I was heartened to hear his stance on the secondary market and fakes, but when he said the open edition is supposedly "accessible" enough to be thrown around by a child, I just realized he is operating on a different plane and must be a bit out of touch. Plus I think the whole thing is just a stupid game. Either keep the shops stocked, or just say there's not going to be any more. Even the shop wouldn't say yes or no, just "we haven't heard anything." That's total bullshit. So yeah, if you can, go see the exhibit. It's awesome, and I'll be going back to see it again. But the man definitely has his head in the clouds. And I don't think he's being nefarious or malicious, just out of touch.

Kaws BFF Plush, by smokinfish on Dec 2, 2016 6:41:29 GMT 1, Toys vs Art. That was a subject he talked about a lot. He mentioned how when he first made the figures they were called toys. Kaws said he always takes pride in having his sculptures match the figures as close as possible. So now that they are 8' tall are they art? Does that mean the figures are art or the sculptures are big toys.
In regards to price, the south park kidrobot vinyls are $49.99 each. Yes South park. A higher price is also to drive off bootleggers. The number of people that will pay $200 for an open edition vinyl is already small the number that will pay $300+ is even smaller. I don't think he meant accessible as in Toys R Us, but as in collectors that want a KAWS figure to display in their home.
He took questions but no signatures. It's pretty obvious that museum pushes him to do these events. He acted and spoke pretty much like any of my other creative friends that are forced to talk about their work in front of large groups of people.

Kaws BFF Plush, by txjaxx on Dec 2, 2016 20:58:18 GMT 1, I don't think he meant accessible as in Toys R Us, but as in collectors that want a KAWS figure to display in their home.
But that's exactly what he said. I don't have the 100% exact quote, but he repeated that the toys are intended to make his art accessible (he used that word over and over, which I remember because he pronounced it "ass-essible") and to have something nice to put on your shelf but not be mad about when your child throws it across the room or drops it. It's not like the worst thing someone has ever said, it was just eye-roll worthy.
What is truly silly, as I mentioned before, is the smoke and mirrors about their availability. I just think it's disingenuous.
Some other silly things: They had a framed print of Snoopy in the museum shop with a placard next to it saying edition of 50 with a certain number of proofs (can't remember that number). Asked an employee - the museum sold 9 of them at $14K or $18K (again, can't remember, not that it makes any difference) and kept one for its collection. No word on the other 40.
They are now running a KAWS toy raffle. They have a huge selection of toys spanning his career. The day after the exhibit closes in January, they are going to draw names and email people. You have 20 minutes to call back before they move on to the next name. What you win is not the item itself, but an opportunity to BUY the item. There were more rules, and they have the prices. One of the items is a Sorayama Companion, which would be pretty fun to have.

Kaws BFF Plush, by sl on Dec 2, 2016 21:19:05 GMT 1, "ass-essible" really cracked me up especially if repeated over and over. I think it's time to get a grip on reality when $200 is meant to be "ass-essible" to all. Most people have to work many days to bring home that cheddar ๐ง Then to throw it across the room when people can't even get 1 to display due to hype and low production - straight gaaabage

In regards to price, the $200 KAWS figure I bought is by far the cheapest piece of art I've bought all year. Crazy thing is, it's one of two pieces that's not a piece of paper.
i started a thread under KAWS, with a photo of the details to the Lottery and the items available.

The reason why he Sells through these museums is not charity. It's for promotion and relations. Artists need museums more than museums need artists and artists want their pieces in museums for SEVERAL reasons. Museums like Moma or modern routinely reject donated art.

Kaws BFF Plush, by natstan on Dec 6, 2016 15:20:10 GMT 1, Finally received my November order from Gallerie Perotin. Took around 4 weeks I think. I am selling for face value though if anyone is interested. It's the three regular Companions.
Good to hear. But one would think they offer more prompt customer service. Did it went all quiet until it appears on your doorstep one fine day??

Kaws BFF Plush, by natstan on Dec 6, 2016 15:22:06 GMT 1, Have anyone who bought the 2nd release of the open ed recently on perrotin receive anything? This gallery is hopeless, doesn't reply to emails at all. Is there someone here who is in contact with them, and can help check on the status of these orders? Order is confirmed and money is collected but just went silent for 2 straight weeks. It took months for them to send me one of the exhibition posters, and when it arrived it was in a flimsy tube and damaged... they sent another, but they're not the best at this sort of thing.
Wow just wow. #epicfail

Kaws BFF Plush, by Lord Lucas Roham on Dec 6, 2016 19:13:50 GMT 1, I phoned and talked to them, see my previous post. The said it would be a few days as the gentleman I spoke to was working in isolation and can only do so much. He was extremely apologetic.
