Local Elections 2019, by moron on May 3, 2019 20:42:46 GMT 1, Still shocked when i see to what level the media are willing to go to in an attempt to spin this. I was amazed when they started running with that line. Funny thing is, no one has realised its actually almost 20 times as many seats the torys have lost. "Its easier to *con the people, than it is to convince them they have been *conned" ... so why didn't Labour win 600 / 800 / 1000 / 1200+ seats up for grabs that the Tories lost? *fool MT Labour lost a lot of young voters. Due to being caught out lying about student loans o get votes from young people in the last general election and also due to being pro brexit during the brexit referendum campaign.

Whats that got to do with the perpetration of lies and the lack of respect for the facts presented?
*Yeah, thats a pretty small detail compared to not bothering to fact check your maths.

Good lord. Try doing the maths for what you posted.
"The Conservatives have lost around 10 times as many councillors, but"
1305 vs 77. so, 1305 divided by 77 = 16.948. So in reality thats 17 times as many losses for the tories.
I dont really need to go look up anything fella. Thats some pretty basic maths followed by some pretty bad misrepresentation, and still you cant see it.
Edit: Bills stats now give that a 20.142. So thats over 20 times as many losses as labour.

Yeah, but to be fair, you should have spotted before posting really, and defo caught on a bit sooner. Its all about the bullshit misrepresentation of information though. Kinda feeding into how the media manipulate and fool people with piss poor statistical misrepresentations, and just plan old fashioned lies dressed up as fact. You fell for it, you shared it, you didnt even bother to check it. Hence what i said at the beginning about why labour didnt pick up more votes. It all feeds into the bigger story.

Local Elections 2019, by .dappy on May 3, 2019 21:38:33 GMT 1, ... OK I'll say this one more time, I updated the figures after I originally posted the original figures to the article...
... but doesn't that make it worse if the Conservatives lost x20 more seats ... then why didn't Labour win soooo many more then when the Conservatives lost X10?
... I hope that Labour win the next election, but I don't think they will win it with JC ... it is not JC that I would actually worry about ... it is McDonnell

Obviously not a misrepresentation at all.
No, it really doesnt make anything worse. Its not a great result, but its the difference between a slap round the face, and being hit by an 18 wheeler and getting dragged 5 miles down the road. Labour got a shot across the bows to say get it together, tories are going to need all the gorilla glue and masking tape in existence and all the kings horses and all the kings men on their A game, just to half put themselves back together. Are you going to go for "they won" next? hasnt come up as of yet, but the numbers sort of support it if you like it that way.
Its pretty easy for labour to recover their losses, really cant say the same about the tories. Its locals, so many other random things in play, GE is a different game for labour, unlikely to be able to say the same for the tories after a kicking like that. Oh, and now the infighting should get really exciting too.

(I don't know when this was last updated but this page says Labour lost 82, not 63.) www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/ceeqy0e9894t/england-local-elections-2019 Ive already said it wasnt a great result. Read what ive written already. I explained part of why its not so bad. Then there is a good bit of work by the greens and others. Added to that is the fact that although the lib dems pulled back a load of seats, they would still need to do the same again to challenge labour, so thats another record gain of over 600 seats they need, just to get to labours position re seats as they stand now. So they really are no great threat. Also that result will have crushed the will of the tories and probably sent a few more off in other directions again, they are in full meltdown. At the next GE you will also have the likes of far-rage involved again, so he is likely to add a split to the tory vote, that wasnt present in the locals. Labour voters who have protest voted in locals will most likely return to labour for the GE, so they will have an increased vote share while the tories will likely have a reduced vote share. Will that be enough to avoid a coalition, not so sure about that, but im pretty sure it will still put the tories out, so not at all as bad as some would like to suggest for labour. Catastrophic for the tories though.
Those numbers i used are based on the locals too, so they only represent i think two thirds of the country. Which means the lib dems actually need to gain over 900 additional seats at a GE to pose a threat. And as there were no locals in london, thats a massive chunk labour leaning territory.

Local Elections 2019, by Deleted on May 4, 2019 12:41:06 GMT 1, I agree that this was disastrous for the Tories but I don't see anything promising from these results for Labour either. With the Tories in utter Chaos and the shambles over Brexit, Labour should be miles ahead in every constituency up and down the country. Everyone was expecting the Tories to do badly, even the Tories themselves. But Labour were expecting to scoop up at least half or two-thirds of the Tory losses. Labour should be gaining hundreds if not thousands of seats but instead they are losing seats. Even taking in to consideration the rise of the LibDems, Labour should still have gained a few hundred seats at the very least. You are correct, however, not to equate local elections too closely with a general election but all the indications do not look good for Labour right now. If you can't grab seats off the worst government we have had in living memory then what can you do?

Local Elections 2019, by rebate on May 4, 2019 12:57:05 GMT 1, I agree that this was disastrous for the Tories but I don't see anything promising from these results for Labour either. They look a lot better for labour than the rest.
Tories smashed to bits, greens, lib dems, others made some great but inconsequential gains and labour lost a few. Labour will pull theirs back in a GE, it was a warning, tories will probably lose more off the back of that result and face internal carnage from grass roots up, plus will face far-rage in the GE mix creaming of a shit load more of their core vote.
Thats just how the overall numbers stack up in context. It wasnt a good night for labour, but they still came off better than the rest.

Local Elections 2019, by Chris JL on May 4, 2019 13:39:22 GMT 1, Disclaimer: I might be off since from the aggregate one can miss important micro flows. But it looks to me that the outcome is very clear: 1) peopleโs vote adamant supporters win undoubtably big; 2) brexiters and enabling fudgers all lose to various degrees (from seismic to very disappointing).
Not sure how one can interpret the above as โpeople want Brexit deliveredโ as Tor-byns are spinning..,,
