Paul Insect Pop Up show May 2019, by Express Post on May 29, 2019 22:28:41 GMT 1, Means formulaic. Play it safe by repeating what they did before because it sold. Hush keeps doing Geishas with his graffiti motif backgrounds. Has been doing this for over five years now. Insect has been doing the eyes thing and painting out the rest of the face in solid colours as early as 2013.
Just pulled out some older works and compared them with a recent example. If his style is evolving by just adding more colours and patterns in the background or adding glitter, then its like Pikachu putting on a suit. Dressing up but not exactly evolving.
Evolving is like going from dead rebels to eyes.

His work has been definitely evolving throughout the yrs. He’s not just adding different colors or backgrounds, you can obviously see the style has changed in every picture u have just shown. His techniques, patterns, color palette to the eyes and mouth have made his paintings look more realistic. I'm just not speaking because I'm a huge fan and collect his work, its just obvious that u can see the difference especially in his paintings up close and personal.
But everybody has their own opinion which is cool and I respect ✊🏻
Its a great show, i’ll be seeing some of u guys there ✌🏻👀

Paul Insect Pop Up show May 2019, by hiya on May 30, 2019 8:21:59 GMT 1, For me 90 percent of Paul’s earlier work is rubbish (Sorry Paul but it’s purely an opinion) compared to his blocked out portraiture, all that dead rebels and clockwork nonsense is amateurish in comparison. What we’ve seen is someone who has grown up and matured elegantly. There is no one out there like him and any attempt to copy his vision will be instantly flagged accordingly. In today’s world this is an extraordinary achievement. It’s no coincidence that he’s been picked up by a known gallery.
You cannot deny that he is an extremely creative individual, and creative individuals always deliver. I keep referring back to Damien Hirst seeing as many members on here absolutely revere him. Just how many spot paintings and prints of spots are viewed as acceptable on a creative artistic arc before it’s deemed boring, contrived and lazy? How about Josh Sperling and his marshmallow worms? An artist is more than entitled to explore their core visual language until such point as they feel satisfied it’s reached its nadir (Hirst excluded because we all know he has zero artistic talent but bucket loads of business acumen).
I am biased as I own most of Paul’s portrait prints and they’re all on the wall, problem is they’re all so big I’ve run out of space. Each to their own, plenty of artists out there to support, plenty of art out there to flip, plenty of art out there to enjoy.

Paul Insect Pop Up show May 2019, by Deleted on May 30, 2019 15:51:37 GMT 1, Would love to see what he can do outside of pretty faces. That's all.
I'm not doubting his talent at all.
As for Hush. Just read the post about Hush on THIS SITE. All the same arguments can easily be applied to Paul Insect. Not about this talent but about the direction of his work. It's all the same over and over for a while now.
I'm glad to see artist try new things. I would like to see what Paul Insect's next style will be.
Even Harland Miller is now trying new things with his show in Hong Kong since his western covers don't really translate there. I think it's great when artist are exploring new formats or ideas. I would like to see Paul Insect next vision will be soon or hopefully at his next show. Or this will become like Hush and what everyone else on this site has said about Hush, not me.

Paul Insect Pop Up show May 2019, by fasttwitch on May 30, 2019 17:06:54 GMT 1, Insect originals are very different in person than on a computer screen. I have asked a few other artists about his technique and they cannot give me answers. There is a very skilled application of paint where little drops of different colored paint form the image like an evolution of Lichtenstein. The paint drops morph and the negative space shapes the image, hard to put into words but I find his technique unique skilled and fun to look at up close.

I was amazed once I saw his originals in person as I had no idea how much was going on nor exactly what, prior to then. Quite a process he goes thru for each pc of work. I highly recommend checking out his shows if you get the chance.

Paul Insect Pop Up show May 2019, by andi on May 30, 2019 18:58:01 GMT 1, Was not lucky at the print release, but I went there only 10 minutes before the start. Waited one and a half hour to find out that I won't get one ...
But everyone who didn't get one got a free screenprint instead.
Also those are for sale now at the show for 100€ each. Signed, not numbered but according to the staff there limited to approximately 100 per colorway.
BTW: the show is totally worth it!
