Online galleries and resellers , by jojo727 on May 14, 2019 18:44:51 GMT 1, Hi everyone
I have been trying to find his prints / silkscreen / originals and thought I will share some resources with those that are as new as me. Hope that the rest can contribute too. Especially if going japan, where are the local shops?
Galleries: 1. Official, Perrotin - store.perrotin.com/en/ There is also an offline store at NYC that sells print. Both are the cheaper stores. Delivery charges for the nyc shop are cray cray though. The online store on the other hand has free delivery.
2. gagosian.com/ (very responsive. But artwork are in the millions)
Online sellers 1. Kumi Contemporary - www.kumicontemporary.com/artwork/takashi-murakami.html Chris seems reputable and he is v patient and replies promptly. Compared to the others, he carries a lot more silkscreens which are rarer. Not rock bottom prices. Guess you pay for good service.
2. Dope! Gallery - dope.gallery/murakami-prints Seems to update very frequently and a lot of new stock every week After a few emails, went radio silent. Did not want to show real pictures and said kept in storage implying not convenient. Search through threads here that said had trouble returning when authenticity is questioned. Might just be my experience.
3. Sugimoto68 - www.sugimoto68.com/shop/ Seems v passionate about Murakami. Contains archives of his works and many interesting articles. Has an online shop Very patient. Replies emails extremely promptly Can’t seem to find reviews about his shop. Any comments?
4. Fort Worth modern - shop.themodern.org/collections/artist-limited-edition-prints It’s a museum so nuff said. But doesn’t sell to people outside of USA. Sigh
Happy hunting

Online galleries and resellers , by Iqra'a on May 21, 2019 14:50:48 GMT 1, would love to buy a murakami at retail but its not going to happen outside japan. In rare instances, he does release prints at retail price in the US (circa $400 per standard edition). I went to his show at Museum of Fine Arts in Boston a couple of years ago and they had a booklet of available prints at retail. I was fortunate enough to get in early and got one print. But I saw one guy before me come in and buy 5-6 prints of the same image and now resells them on the bay. Needless to say, seeing that guy in-person and conversing with him online reaffirmed his douchebaggery.
I was also early enough to get a meet-and-greet with Murakami. That was nice.

Online galleries and resellers , by jojo727 on Jun 5, 2019 10:06:09 GMT 1, 1. Got two prints from sugimoto68 The deliveries were v smooth and came in original kaikai kiki box which is v intricately packed. There are styrofoam boards, brown papers and a ton of sticky tapes. It also came with a receipt inside stating the prices.
One was immaculate. The other had a crease by the side clamped by the brown paper. Emailed sugimoto68 for a slight rebate but no reply so far ( not so prompt anymore haha).
2. Bought one from Perrotin store. Before delivery, they noticed a crease and emailed me if I still want it. The framer adviser against it and perrotin very promptly refunded. After sales service was superb and fuss free. Guess company vs reseller has some differences in standards after all.

Over the last six months we have been busy designing and building a brand new gallery space on the Regents Canal in Hoxton N1. The new space will be opening late Autumn 2019 and needless to say we’re very excited. More details to follow.

Online galleries and resellers , by met on Sept 23, 2019 6:37:37 GMT 1, Does anybody have any further feedback about 'Dope Gallery' beyond the little info in the first post here? 1. Use the Search function of the forum:
urbanartassociation.com/search
2. In 'What to search... — with the phrase', type "dope gallery":
[For additional results, type "dope! gallery", i.e. with an exclamation mark.]
3. Press Enter on your keyboard, or click the 'Search' button at the bottom of the page.
4. Read through the results, a number of which offer commentary about Dope! Gallery.
You'll find the feedback is mixed.
Some of it is positive. Other posts refer to this online gallery apparently having sold a few forgeries to members here — such as fake Jonas Wood posters, a fake Murakami, and a fake Banksy Di–Faced Tenner.
A separate matter of concern is Dope! Gallery having provided certificates of authenticity for the Di–Faced Tenners it sold (including at least one tenner it later accepted was fake).
It's normal for a gallery to guarantee the genuineness of sale items. However, the issuing of COAs relating to artwork should only ever be carried out by a source entity directly involved in the creation, publishing or original distribution of that art. Other parties lack the authority, legitimacy and requisite knowledge.
Secondary market dealers therefore have no business issuing COAs. Whenever they do so, it makes a mockery of the very notion of these certificates. What it also indicates to me is a cavalier attitude towards good practice and professional integrity.
