Who's worth watching?, by That Print Guy on Jun 8, 2019 20:01:33 GMT 1, this is one of the smartest things I've seen posted on this forum Really? Not sharing info with other members - not wanting your favourite artist to have a growing market - not wanting to see the artist being more succesful For personal gain and being able to buy cheap….. 100% for personal gain, yes. I'm a selfish motherfocker

Who's worth watching?, by Fast Eddie on Jun 9, 2019 2:23:08 GMT 1, I do not want to share my thoughts on a public forum. Too many artists that I admire/want to collect are already being discovered, and I am being priced out of their markets. Do not worry. Art markets are efficient and all information is already priced in in the valuation of the artworks. Feel free to share.

Who's worth watching?, by treweman on Jun 9, 2019 16:07:24 GMT 1, After I acquire art from an artist, I post everywhere I can, and sing their praises from on high. And not for my personal gain, as I don’t tend to sell originals once they are in my collection (prints sometimes, originals no). For those who know me, your assessment rings hollow. Nonetheless, there are a few artists who are already well enough known that prices are so high, or the queue for affordable pieces is so long, that my chances of adding an original work to my collection are not good. Why on earth would I point even more people to those artists? And if you peruse two threads on UAA - Artists You Might Not Know and Show Us YOUR Latest ART BUY - you will have noticed that I post quite often about both relatively unknown artists and artists whose pieces are in my collection. At any rate, there are a number of artists who have thanked for my efforts on their behalf, and a number of new and emerging artists to whom I’ve made a substantial financial commitment, that I feel comfortable with who I am as an art collector and my contributions to the art community in general. If you want to know artists that I like, look at my posts both on UAA and the other forums (same user name). Unlike most others, the majority of the pieces in my collection are open to the public online. As for the artists whose pieces I want to add to my collection in the future ...

I appreciate what divejedi said but if you shouted about a new artist you like before you add a work (as I've done before) you run the huge risk of not being able to buy a work and then watch others buy to hold and flip.
So yes....advocate of holding your breath then shouting from the rooftops too!

Who's worth watching?, by billybob1969 on Jun 29, 2020 0:08:36 GMT 1, These are the emerging and mid-career artists I’m buying or looking to buy: - Josh Smith - Tomoo Gokita - Charlotte Keates - Ben Reeves - Liu Xiaodong - Tala Madani - Caroline Walker (from Scotland not England ) - Sanya Kantarovsky - Tschabalala Self - Maria Ferrer - Harold Ancart - Nicolas Party
Most of these artists you can buy small canvasses or works on paper for sub £10k (although there are waiting lists for some of the more established names). Xiaodong and Party are better established so originals are expensive although there are prints that range from £1-5k.

Murmure Street is also someone, i could'nt resist buying an original from - did not want to miss them, if they suddently begins to take off.

Best to buy Originals whenever possible

Who's worth watching?, by flatcolor on Jun 29, 2020 20:20:15 GMT 1, I just feel like saying, that with so many collecting "urban and street art" that there are plenty of the originals out there making stellar art for reasonable prices.
Look at the legend Skeme (@skeme3yeardking on insta) from Style Wars fame, he has everything from sticker slap originals, to drawings to canvas. Even though his insta says not taking commissions, he is still selling through there all the time.
For every Futura, Daze, Crash, Parla, there are guys like Skeme, @servefba, @weboleum, @tkid170 and many more that are still super affordable. Not to mention a lot of these guys are POC, if you're conscientious about adding more diversity in your collection.
In addition, some of the current crop of writers are selling stuff to make ends meet. Guys like @jimbomakesstuff, I got an incredible 12"x12" watercolor from him for 100 bucks. (see below)
My suggestion, find a person who's style you like, find who they follow, go down the rabbit hole of friends and if you find someone whos art you like, reach out say hello, tell them why you like they work and show them some support!
Cheers!

If you fancy buying a complete unknown crack on but that's not for everyone. Billybob1969 it's best not to disclose what you own as there are some unsavoury forum members that may use the info to bully you in the future Unfortunately, Best to keep your collection private I spread unsavoury members on my scones and eat them with my afternoon tea
