Banksy at RA summer exhibition , by 19818914 on Jun 11, 2019 10:29:14 GMT 1, It was great and the perfect setting. Perfect setting would have been in a actual airport/port/dock. This looks more like a prop for Boomtown
I don’t expect you guys to agree with me. Nor will I push my opinion.

Banksy at RA summer exhibition , by Dive Jedi on Jun 11, 2019 11:21:24 GMT 1, I didn’t feel this piece created the buzz it once would. A decent enough piece but a yearly slot at the RA doesn’t feel very Banksy to me. You can't except anyone to keep exceeding themselves every time. Not even Banksy.
He would be ending up shredding the Queen....
It's a proper piece with a strong message. Good job.

Lol okay. Just like he set up the stall in the middle of the art fair last time.
Either he just doesn’t care, is trying to be funny or thinks his fans are idiots. Can’t decide which.

Banksy at RA summer exhibition , by Wearology on Jun 11, 2019 21:12:21 GMT 1, The rat is definitely different - it is more freehand painted than stencilled. It is also skinnier and has more definition than previous Banksy rodents.

There has been a change in rats over time. From the solid black stencils to the ones with small clumps of fur like the 3d rats and this one is different again. Plus there were a lot of variations in between. It's great to see the evolution of the rats.

Could it have been stencilled and then touched up with a brush straight away to blend and add detail? I have been looking for some over spray and there seems to be some on the rats shoulder.
Or maybe a stencil wasn't practical due to the grooves and shape of the shutter panels for a rat with that much detail, so it was painted.

I suppose its far quicker to hand paint than all that cutting a stencil palaver

Banksy at RA summer exhibition , by met on Jun 28, 2019 15:26:32 GMT 1, Non-Londoners attending the Summer Exhibition 2019 may not realise that the Royal Academy of Arts is located on Piccadilly at the southern edge of Mayfair — which is the city's gallery land.
If you're in the area and not yet suffering from art fatigue, I would suggest also visiting notable local galleries and auction houses. Here are some options among the dozens available:
Pace Gallery [NB: The London venue at the back of the RA currently has a rather dull show featuring the American abstract minimalists Jo Baer, Mary Corse and Agnes Martin.]
Sprüth Magers
Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac
Marlborough Gallery
Flowers Gallery
Osborne Samuel
Gagosian Gallery [This is on Davies Street, i.e. London's mini-Gagosian — "boutique" and far less substantial than the flagship space on Britannia Street in the King's Cross area.]
__________
Phillips
Sotheby's
Bonhams [New Bond Street, as opposed to the separate venue in Knightsbridge.]
__________
For a specific recommendation, the most thought-provoking art show I've seen this year is Life Still by Keith Tyson, at the excellent Hauser & Wirth.
It's on until 7 September 2019 at one of the gallery's two locations at 23 Savile Row.
www.hauserwirth.com/hauser-wirth-exhibitions/23555-keith-tyson
Some of the web-page text:
Hauser & Wirth London is proud to present ‘Life Still’, an exhibition of new paintings by Keith Tyson. The series of works displayed have a shared subject matter; they are all flower paintings. Through the prism of this singular genre, Tyson moves between the philosophical, the mathematical, and the mythological to create the 25 works in the exhibition. By taking a myriad of approaches, painting each canvas himself, Tyson draws on the information systems that surround and bombard us, reflecting an experience of the contemporary world we all inhabit. In this respect, beyond any reading of the subject matter, the content of the exhibition explores how painting is, and always has been, contingent on the conditions and context of its making.
Tyson has referred to paint as a ‘programmable material’ and an ongoing interest in computers, coding and data has always been an important part of his life – from taking apart a motherboard as a teenager, to building ‘Art Machine’ early in his career. This featured algorithm generated combinations of words and ideas, which Tyson then realised in a multitude of media. His fascination with systems and the effect of data consumption manifests itself in the abundance of formal languages of painting in the exhibition. A celebration of the interconnectivity of the current age and its effect on himself and society is a counterpoint here to Tyson’s choice of subject matter which has a long-established art historical precedent. As Tyson says, ‘I don’t believe in a permanent self or in developing an artistic style. Our world is full of intricately connected systems and events. I’m simply trying to make work in collaboration with them.’
Sample imagery taken from a Studio International interview with Tyson *:
All the works were painted by Tyson himself (I asked specifically).
